I've been battling this issue for years, and have noticed more are finally seeing what is happening. This morning I spent hours editing my pictures for my online sale business in windows photos, running windows10 64. I spend all my spare time doing this over and over ad infitum. I refuse to sign up for a cloud account. To force me to sign up they take and mix same pictures in many folders so my HD fills up. They delete my new edits despite the fact that I have disabled all the auto deletion programs, plus I white listed all my working folders and they still take them. I've been doing this kind of work for over 20 years, and they want me to believe their lies about permissions, and I have to have a cloud account, or better yet I have to sign into microshaft to use the internet. Is there any kind of non federal agencies to complain to? All of my sd cards, flash drives, backup hard drives have been burglurized. I have lost over 200 gigs of family pics, navy travel and some very important documents I have had for decades. I know they are just hidden, but why? Am I being punished??? All my other computers have been rendered useleass because of permissions and ownership. I haven't had time to work on those. I'm a disabled veteran and my benefits pay my rents. If I do not sell I do not eat. I have no idea how to save anything. I had probably 50 gigs of freeware programs I need for all my computers, these have all been rendered useless by gutting the commands and .exe extensions. I just recently looked into my documents, and downloads folders and many of the freeware programs are a folder with 1k data in it. even my paid programs get corrupted. Any help would be surely appreciated.

Seeing as this behaviour is entirely abnormal... you almost certainly don't have one. Check your equipment and methodology - and... probably stop using this system for your work in the interim.

If it does have an undetected bug or some kind of major corruption issue, you're just gonna add more gigs to that pile of messed up stuff.

Seriously though - that is simply not how Windows works. Do you honestly think Microsoft thinks they'd get away with doing this on such a prolific scale to push their agenda? You're small fish, mate. They don't give a hoot enough to do you in individually, so clearly you have something else seriously screwed up with your method.

If you want legal advice, the only advice anyone really ought to give you is to...
Paranoid much?
Who they? Cosmic rays randomly flipping bits of your data? Yes - they're out there to get you and destroy your data. LOL

Data corruption can happen. Usually it's health of your storage device, to blame.
You prevent this by making backups.

When was the last time you made backups for your important data?

You obviously did not read my post. I worked in a computer store when 95 first came out in 97. This issue has been ongoing for around 10 years. It has gotten to the point of having to spend 2 or 3 times longer to edit one ar a time then list it before it reverts to original. I can tell you unbelievable things that have been happening but you would not understand and mock it. So why waist my time?

How about switching to a more suitable photo editing program like GIMP? Why continue using windows photos when the program is really not suitable for the tasks you want to perform?

I have used gimp, Corel paint shop pro which I wasted over 100 dollars on. It is not the editing software its file management. Windows photo is the only easy editing program that will crop a square easily. Gimp sort of does but it won't save in the program, so every time I shut down I have to set it up again. Corel is by far the best I've used but whatever is doing this takes out pieces of programs until they do not work anymore. I downloaded some programs from getintopc.com and installed them one day. The next day I booted my computer and mi rosoft left me a couple dozen log files with eula agreement telling me to read this. They took out the exe extension thank God for revo. It took me 6 hours to uninstall all the corrupt program files. My laptop was off and unplugged the night before. I have many stories to tell about this, but I try not to be boring. All i ask is for a legal source for looking into it and advise me. I've tried windows xp, 7, 10, iOS high Sierra, ubuntu, next will be mint cinnamon. I just want to do my work without this childishness going on. I've tried almost every virus malware program there is. AVG is the only one the found issues.

the first question is who is "they"

They don't give a hoot enough to do you in individually, so clearly you have something else seriously screwed up with your method.

If you want legal advice, the only advice anyone really ought to give you is to contact a proper lawyer and perhaps establish evidence that this is as you say it is. Cause, I'm sort of with everyone else - you sound like between photo editing you're scratching spiders out of your skin.

In any case, you need something provable - and having been a technician and someone who's worked extensively with at least their modern offerings - what you're saying ... quite honestly does not make a lick of sense.

They don't care enough to target you specifically - that's just delusions of grandeur, and this isn't really something anyone else is complaining about. I guarantee an operating system spontaneously and regularly breaking both program functionality and critical data would not survive long. One thing to try on your SD cards, as it should make them inviolate - turn on the read lock (the lil knob thingy at the side). If you get corruption on novel data... well, you got something real interesting on your hands.

Also... if your files are spontaneously losing their extensions ("gutting exe extensions")... that's a pretty common sign of some serious ransomware/viral issues going on. Have you shared hardware carried forth from any of your other computers you've had?

If your income is limited, you may have been tempted to do so, and that would possibly narrow it down to a longrunning hardware failure you've accidentally carried forward?

Like, I'm not trying to be patronizing, but... barring criminal activity, user error, or hardware failure... your presumed reason for this is just looking for deep pockets. They're not doing it. Flat. Anything else is just gross paranoia or ego. I'm sorry, but that's a fact.

If you can't really demonstrate what is going on or justify its cause to a basic hardware forum... court against big pockets is a sure way to make your income all that more limited.

Only other thing I'd say is what has already been said. Even if it is just loose and shuffled files on an external hard drive someplace - you should probably be consistent with backing up your data - or, in this case, making sure that device is the first thing it touches.

And there is your issue. You downloaded pirated software, installed it, and now some of your files are starting to come up missing. You are highly likely to be infected with viruses. Start all over. Format your system. Purchase the software you use and your files will stop magically disappearing.

We cannot assist you with pirated software. Thread closed.
