Hello Community!

I have the following problem description.

I currently have a Lenovo G510 with Intel i7 4700MQ. Nothing's wrong with it until recently, I decided to implement virtualization that requires direct IO function (VT-d). Sadly, I've found out that i7 4700MQ processor offers no support on VT-d. Being an optimist, I conducted some research on the processor. From this and this, I assume that i7 4700MQ and i7 4800MQ (or i7 4810MQ) are somewhat similar, although I am not quite sure if they are replaceable.

My question would be, is there a chance to upgrade my i7 4700MQ to i7 4800MQ? If not, should there be a way to enable VT-d in i7 4700MQ?

I really appreciate all your inputs! Thanks!

Solution
Well, the socket is the same on both CPUS, that gives a chance of upgrade, but you have to check with your motherboard if it's compatible.
Even if it is, the 4800MQ would cost you $380, which is a lot in my eyes.

Great! that gives me a glimpse of hope. Can you also probably tell this newbie where to look at Motherboard type? Anyhow, what would you recommend when you would face the same problem.

would this and this help? From those URLs, supporting motherboards fro both processors are HP ZBook 15 or 17. I'm assuming that HP stands for Hewlett Packard. If so, is it possible that my Lenovo has HP motherboard?
