this laptop is really pushing my buttons. ever since i've bought it, it's been slow. not super slow but enough to make research it. people say that the 5400rpm HDD makes it slow, others say i have to upgrade the 4GB ram, and others also say the i5-7200U processor is meh. so if i do change it to a 7200RPM HDD and add an extra 4GB ram, should the performance be better? can i just do 1 or the other or do i have to upgrade both? please helppppppppp.

The i5 7200U isn't a problem. The 5400 RPM HDD will absolutely cause slowdowns. 4GB of RAM is on the fence. Optimally replace the HDD with an SSD and add another 4GB of RAM.

I'm using a Dell laptop with an i5 5200U and 8GB of RAM and the first thing I did was replace the HDD with an SSD. Not only will it be faster and more responsive but battery life will increase. In day to day basic use it's as fast as my 6700K / 16GB / 512GB 950 Pro desktop.
