I have a Lenovo idea pad 330 15 ast laptop which I accuired.
It had something spilt on it.
I tested the voltage the battery which was fine
so replaced the motherboard.
I’ve also replaced the keyboard and trackpad as it wasn’t responding to any of the buttons being pressed.
I can get it to power up with the battery disconnected and power lead plugged in by pressing the reset button but have to unplug the power lead to turn it off.
It won’t power on when pressing the power button at all.
Any hep would be gladly appreciated
Thanks

Do you know what was spilt on the Idea Pad?

How much, how long ago? How long was the spill left on or in the Idea Pad?

What, if anything, was done to clean up the spill and otherwise recover the laptop.

Point being that depending on circumstances the original owner may have done even more damage trying to clean and repair the Idea Pad.

As I understand your post you have attempted rather extensive repairs and replacements. Were those attempts done by using Lenovo documentation of any sort?

User Guides/Manuals, Technical Repair Manuals? What about replacement parts: Lenovo - new, used, third party?

When the Idea Pad was open was there lots of crud and debris inside? Maybe corrosion, signs of overheating (burned or darkened areas) etc. Wires kinked, pinched, out of place. Perhaps missing screws or other pieces.

About all you can do it take take closer look and everything. Bright flashlight, magnifying glass, handy technical manual for reference purposes. (Use another computer to look for the manual online. Start with Lenovo's website.

[Note: Be very careful because there are many "User Manual" websites that are simply lures to trick and trap visitors....]

If you are comfortable with what you have done then the problem is likely some unseen damage that has occurred along the way.

You may be able to salvage the laptop - no way to really know. Set a limit on how much time, effort, and money you are willing to spend.

At some point you may need to salvage what you can and properly re-cycle the rest.

Hi thanks for the advice.
I think it was some form of alcoholic drink and not sure if it would have been cleaned off straight away.
I did take some advice from Lenovo regarding replacing and diagnosing the motherboard.
I fitted a second hand keyboard with track pad from eBay and a generic motherboard which was purchased from Ali express. I know this probably wasn’t the best idea but was trying to keep the costs down.
I’m going to have another look at it when I have the time.
Since I posted the problem I have managed to get it to boot up from pressing the power button on the keyboard and also factory restored it but it does sill randomly not respond when pressing keys or when trying to click on something with the trackpad.
