Well, allow me to start from the beginning. this was my first online laptop purchase, my first Lenovo purchase, and my first high-end pc purchase. i previously had a 2015 HP Pavillion star wars edition laptop that i was very fond of back when cool graphics was the thing for laptops. as my needs changed, so did my laptop. lets face it, a core i5-6200u and 8gb of ram with a slow 1tb 5400rpm hard drive wasnt going to cut it in 2019, so i sold it and decided to wait. as i waited i purchased a desktop for an amazing deal, and it serves me well, but theres one thing a laptop has over a desktop, portability. i cannot carry my desktop around, especially to a classroom, so i went on the hunt for the best laptop for the money. i needed great battery life, excellent build quality, and overall price to performance. i didnt want a heavy flashy gaming laptop, as i would be using this laptop specifically for I.T. and graphic design purposes, so a dedicated GPU was necessary. i looked and looked. the dell XPS15 sounded like a very good choice, but upon further inspection, customer service, and warranty services were definitely lacking. so i looked at lenovo. heres where the debate started, i had looked at a few cheaper models to see what i could get for a good price, and man, there were a few eyesores. then came the X1 extreme, a 15.6 inch powerhouse in a thin and light chassis, and extended accidental damage protection? whats the catch? well, nothing. further inspection revealed that all warranty and sales go straight through Lenovo, there is no third party organizations, and the sales are INSANE! this configuration i am currently using is reatiled at $2800 Canadian, and i managed to get a student discount, as well as their July savings, and managed to snatch the laptop for $2000, with an additional $300 for extended warranty. i bought it and awaited a notification that it had shipped. and this is where the fun begins. 5 days later, still no shipping notification, something must be up, so i give Lenovo a chat, and it turns out that custom spec PC's take 5-7 days to build and 4-6 days to ship, compared to the 3-5 day shipping on the website (silly me). the sale reps were beyond helpful, and i knew that my business was in the right hands. the shipping was fairly quick, ordering the laptop on the 12th of July put my order in my hands on the 30th. and man, was it worth the wait, as i am typing this review, the keys are beyond my expectations, providing exceptional keystrokes and tactile feedback, the glass track pad is smooth and responsive, even the track point is well deserved to still be here in 2019. the screen is sharp and color accurate, only having the FHD model i feel like its better than what i was expecting. the machine is extremely light for a 15" laptop, the additional privacy camera and fingerprint reader is a nice touch, what can go wrong from here? well, i am noticing that the battery life was a bit poor, additional inspection revealed that the software for the 1050 ti is a little buggy, and requires that you disable and re-enable the GPU in device manager every time you power on the device from cold shutdown, OK, that's not bad, i can live with it but at least i figured it out. typing this now i still have 6 hours to go on 53% of battery. overall, this is an exceptional laptop, and i highly recommend it to anyone who needs a powerhouse.
