[SOLVED] Lenovo Y540 core speed drops after 10 min of gaming

After playing valorant for like 10 min the core speed drops to 0.79Ghz. I monitored my temp its always below 70. I turned off BD Prochot but it didn't help completely. The GPU usage goes to a 100% after the clock speed is dropped. But everything is running at low temp.

if the gpu at 100%, the cpu might be waiting for the gpu

I would see if there is a way to set all the fans to 100% while you are playing and see if that helps. Plus, I would make sure you are plugged into wall power. This will help eliminate heat as an issue. Also, is it still under warranty?

@shabi132 - Intel XTU is reporting thermal throttling even though your CPU temperature is nowhere near the 100°C temperature that Intel has set for this CPU.

The problem is that Lenovo is changing the thermal throttling temperature as you use your computer. Other manufacturers do not seem to be doing this. Only Lenovo.

A feature was added to ThrottleStop to prevent this from happening. When using ThrottleStop, I strongly suggest that you completely exit Intel XTU so the two programs do not interfere with each other.

Open up the ThrottleStop Options window and on the right hand side, look for the PROCHOT Offset setting. Set this to 3 or 4 and then above this setting you also need to check the Lock PROCHOT Offset option. Press OK when you are done. This locks the thermal throttling temperature so Lenovo software will not be allowed to change it. This should fix the problem you are having.

Post lots of screenshots of ThrottleStop if you need help getting the most out of your CPU. The 9300H works really well when Lenovo is not throttling it to death.

Turn on the ThrottleStop Log File option and go play a game for at least 15 minutes. The log file will show if there are any further throttling problems that need to be fixed. Turn on Nvidia GPU monitoring in the Options window before you start logging data.

I also noticed in your XTU screenshot that turbo boost power is set to 20W. The 9300H is a 45W CPU. For maximum performance, make sure the PL1 power limit in ThrottleStop is set to at least 45W.
