OH! I'm so angry! All the time I download newer Detonator drivers my fps go less and less (I know the correct way to install/unistall drivers) When I check reviews it shows that with newer drivers benchmark scores are higher, more fps, but most people I know experience lower fps when going from 6.50 drivers to 12.41, any idea why? So if you who have GF2 cards (NO GF3) and have some free time to benchamrk those drovers, like 6.50 12.41 and 12.90 and see what results are the best? (no o'clocking) It would be the best way to solve the problem, and what aer LEAKED drivers? with any drivers my system has never crashed.

nvidia basically stops development on products that aren't their newest anymore. As soon as the geforce came out the tnt2's didn't see any gain, this will be true for the geforce 2's as any performance gain in the detonators will be geared for the geforce 3 but the geforce 2 might get a boost too.

yes but performance still shouldn't go down with the newer drivers unless they were trying to do new things in attempts to get performance. Because if you weren't doing something to the drivers then they would give the same performance

Performance goes down sometimes because they are trying to support new features for newer cards, and scale down older features sometimes to make the newer cards more stable. I am seeing a disturbing trend in this forum-most people with problems say they are running the 12.41 drivers. They must all be stupid. They jump into it without reading up on it first.

Cast not thine pearls before the swine

I aggree, If the drivers you are currently using or the one's that came with the Device work, why upgrade them?

If it works for you then don't fix it.

For better DX8 API support which I believe is indicated by faster benchmark in 3dMark2001. If the driver doesn't properly inform DX8 that something can be performed in hardware or hardware/cpu then DX8 will use its own rountine to render the item. Meaning a significant slowdown occurs due to total cpu use for the rendering vice the available hardware support. So the newer drivers are more optimized for the newer games. Also additional OpneGL extensions will be available in the new drivers incorporating new features. One thing I've found out is that Nvidia Drivers are not any better or worst then ATI drivers. ATI leak more beta drivers for the Radeon then Nvidia does for the Geforces. I too found problems with the 12:41 drivers (lockups, slow performance etc.) while the 12:20 drivers work well with my MX400. With the 6:50 drivers I get 1997 in 3dMark2001, with the 12:20 drivers I get 2239 with my MX400.

I have a GeForce 3, and when I installed thhe 12.41 drivers, my performance went down. I'm hoping that 12.60 will be better...

Looking for wife able to cook, fish, have boat and motor. Please send pic. of boat and motor.

? I should try those...I have CardExpert geForce2 MX 32Mb 5.5ns and what I think that manufacturers have to test all those drivers and provide fastest for their card, like I know Gainward says 7.xx best for their MX, but after 12.41 were certified as official drivers they changed it and performance sux! By the way WHAT other games are you talking about? new? Max Payne? Dragothic?

Max Payne will be one of the first DX8 game, so maybe that will be a sure test if these drivers actually speed up DX8 stuff. It should since 3dMark2001 used the same game engine as Max Payne. We will see. That doesn't mean it will speed everything up. That is interesting because when I tried the 12:41 driver I got like 70points slower then the 12:20 drivers in 3dMark2001. I also tried the 12:61 drivers and they just plain sucked on my setup. Also these drivers are more PIV optimize so maybe the AMD systems are hurt, I don't know.

aren't there any 12.90 drivers? my card performes great with 6.50 and sux with all others! Do I acctually instal/uninstall drivers right? I just click the right boton on the desktop and then go to advanced settings then adapter and then change to newer driver NOT saving older ones, this is the right way?

That is how I do it. I've tried uninstalling the old Nvidia drivers then reinstalling the new, it didn't make any difference for me.

I'm looking for the link where I got 12.90. I will update when I find them.

I don't have to post an update. 12.90 detonators are now at my favorite site for drivers, http://www.gamers-ammo.com

To uninstall Detonators use the Remove Software option in Control Panel (Windows 9x/ME). I also like to use NVUninst.exe (a.k.a Detonator Detroyer) which seems to clear up some occasional detonator install hitches.

Get Detonator Destroyer at http://www.guru3d.com.

And now for some detonator benchmark results. (Done with an overclocked (150/210) Geforce256 SDR. Your results will probably vary).

3DMark2001, Default benchmark (1024x768x32)

6.31 - 2322
6.50 - 2319
10.80 - 2364
12.41 - 2367
12.90 - 2373

Serious Sam (1024x768x32), Extreme Quality Add-on, Anisotrophy Off

Detonator, Memphis Suburbs Demo, Dunes Demo (Hi/Lo/Avg)

6.31, 57.5/17.2/26.3, 124/28.9/45.9
6.50, 64.7/16.6/26.6, 110/28.7/46.0
10.80, 86.3/17.6/29.8, 99.0/33.2/49.7
12.41, 91.9/18.1/31.1, 102.4/32.5/49.6
12.90, 100.9/17.5/30.7, 108.3/32.3/49.8

Not much difference with 3dMark2001 but look how Serious Sam varies almost 5 frames/sec from 6.31 drivers to 12.41. In the Memphis Suburbs Demo that's about an 18% improvement for my tired, old Geforce256.

My system

Windows 98SE, DirectX 8.0a, Via 4-in-1 ver 4.31
Abit KT7 mobo (WZ-b01 Bios) w/ Duron 600@1007, 106mhz FSB
Visiontek Geforce256 SDR at 150/210 (up from 120/166)
384mb OCZ Enhanced SDRAM at 141mhz
Maxtor DiamondMax VL40 hard drive
misc. ancient hardware

Good job, you just proved that the drivers performance is improved somewhat for you. So the newer drivers does give some performance increase with GF's.

COOL! I get way much higher scores though, with my 800Mhz tbird and GeForce2 MX at 250/230 I get around 3250 score in 3dmark 2001, with 12.90 drivers. but my RAM is crap, it is CAS2.5 and works at 133Mhz, planning to o'clock my pc to 1Ghz and RAM to ~140..
