You guys are on a real roll with this one. Just because something isnt the constitution does not mean it cant be mentioned or discussed. And you know I wasnt suggest replacing the constitution so dont give me your feigned shock.

My point with the first hospital was that half of it was funded by the gov to; as Franklin put it "to care for the sick-poor and insane who were wandering the streets of Philadelphia.", seems awfully socially responsible eh? And the best part is their seal had a picture of the good Samaritan and the words "Take Care of Him and I will repay Thee".

That speaks a lot to what one of the founding fathers believed about social welfare and taking care of the sick.

Im stepping out of this thread unless someone presents some new information.

Wouldn't it be nice if the UN actually made money and could pay for healthcare for everyone?

Easy to make laws and rules when you don't have to worry about the implications.

Its not like the universal healthcare system is new we are the only industrialized country that had no equivalent. So its not like we are going into uncharted waters here.

You do realize that only one country with Universal Health Care isn't bleeding money on it? That would be Japan.

In Japan, last time I checked, you had to repay 14% of the Medical bill over a few years and had to pay US$500 a month for healthcare. You were not required to pay any more than up to 20% of the total medical bill with your "free" healthcare.

Japan is the only country that is in the black with healthcare. The US doesn't need another hole in the ground to throw money in. This is no longer our children's children's issue. This has become our issue.

In 2009, an article was written blasting GW Bush saying that in 2014 the US debt would be at an astounding $14.1 trillion dollars because of his excessive spending. 2013 we're projected to be at $19 trillion due to Obama's policies.

You realize that Obama, in 4 years, outspent what Bush spent in 8 years? No wonder he won reelection. Romney's point, while not entirely the whole picture, does ring true. Obama bought his election with gov't handouts.

Listen, I'm all for health care. I honestly am. Things take time. When you grow and move too fast, you have issues. It takes time to develop. We might not see it in our lifetime. But we'll get there. We need to stop rushing.

Except the Swiss healthcare system.....

22 of 23 industrialized countries have universal healthcare. We do have a few users from outside the USA, I wonder what their input is into healthcare? Assuming they arent too ill to post.

Spending is a whole different thread, Im not so sure its wise to get into that now...

A lot of my canadian friends come to the US for treatment because the waiting list is too long there. In fact, my neighbor's aunt died because she was a waiting list for surgery. By the time she came up for it, she was too far 'gone' and they passed on her. They basically let her die.

I have a plenty of friends in canada who say it's great if you need the emergency room. If you need anything else, they cross the border and pay out of pocket.

I would also like to state that your previous article quoting how much the CEO of Hostess was making has been updated as incorrect.

They reported he made $2.5 million with a 300% raise. That was incorrect, he was paid $100,000 a month for consulting and running the company. $1.2 million a year really isn't bad considering the size and work.

Well I have a few Canadian friends also, they say their healthcare is just fine and that the wait times are a myth, I have literally had this conversation with some Quebeckers. I sit near a Canuk maybe ill just ask him eh?

Side note: First white walker sighting reported in Canada.

Swiss health care:

People pay 75% of the cost, the government pay 25%.

Just like Japan, the person is shelling out a lot of money for it.

How much does ObamaCare cost the individual? Oh wait, we're putting the expense on businesses instead. That might be useful if everyone held a job, but since we have million unemployed, that's extra cost without getting paid.

I'd be for ObamaCare if everyone had to pay their share into the system like the Japanese and Swiss did.

A good friend of mine works for one of their stores I California & her trainer was a lesbain so yes, they do hire people of all faiths & beliefs. BTW, they are not refusing to provide contracpetion for theri workers but abortion causing "morning after pills. There is a difference in preventing & terminating conception.

A good friend of mine works for one of their stores I California & her store trainer was a lesbain so they do not discrimante on faith or lifestlye. They hire people of all faiths & beliefs. BTW, please read the letter again. They are DO provide contraception for their workers but not NOT want to cover abortion causing "morning after pills which is part of the Obamacare Healthcare mandate. There is a difference in preventing cpnception & terminating a pregnancy. They would prefer to offer private healthcare to their emplyees which would probably cost them MORE than OBamacare so it's NOT because they are cheap. In fatc, the owner of HObby Lobbey bought & donated the Rancho Capistrano property in San Juan Capistrano, CA to a local church for their use & ownership. This is truly about their religious beliefs & NOT about money because they have plenty of it. This is about goverment forcing priate businesses to comply with their rules even if they go against their personal beliefs. It would be no different then if our government told people of different races or lifestyles what they could & could not do. If our goverment exempts ANY other company, (which they have) then they should be able to exempt ones due to their religious views as well.

They still should not invoke their beliefs on other employees who work there. The government should stay out also.

Our Medicare system is good ... we don't let our sick die outside the waiting rooms because they can't pay.

Your entire system is a joke because you don't pay enough tax.

You whine and bitch at the mere thought of it ... moreso than the proverbial whinging pom.

Americans are so adverse to paying tax but it is central to solving most of your actual problems.

Uhh, no. Wait times are not a myth; my uncle and my aunt both came to America to get surgeries.
Canada has permitted some privately run publicly paid medical institutions to lower wait times and costs.
My favorite line from Parks and Recreation -->"It isn't government work if you don't have to do it twice."

Our entire government is a joke. The waste and its size is ridiculous.

Growth like Clinton had needs a smaller government ---> http://www.forbes.com/sites/steveforbes/2012/11/20/president-obama-clinton-prosperity-requires-clinton-sized-government/
Obamacare is just another reach by the government to expand their powers and size.

Where do you get this nonsense we let our people die outside waiting rooms if they have no money to pay? This is absurd on your part to say this!

Your aunt and uncle make up the less than .5% of Canuks that comes here then.

But lets look at it logically, with numbers and such. We would assume that hospitals along the border are just overrun with sick canadians, Maple sugar OD's are getting more and more common. But what we see is a little different

The authors of the study started by surveying 136 ambulatory care facilities near the U.S.-Canada border in Michigan, New York and Washington. It makes sense that Canadians crossing the border for care would favor places close by, right? It turns out, however, that about 80 percent of such facilities saw, on average, fewer than one Canadian per month; about 40 percent had seen none in the preceding year.

Im not sure why your Aunt and Uncle would lie to you, maybe they have a very good sense of humor. Also I did put that same question to a few Canuks here and they seemed to think it was funny, their wait times are the same as ours. But they did let me know that for cosmetic surgery there is often a wait, but important life saving surgery is the same.

You should research more into the hospitals that let people die in the lobby. These are hospitals that are operating very poorly because they are so heavily abused. The people are repeat offenders coming into the hospital daily. No emergency room visits can be turned down because someone can't afford to pay - they all get helped regardless. It is when someone becomes a repeat offender and keeps coming in, day after day, that they people get tired of someone crying wolf.

I've never known anyone to have to wait to use an emergency room in the US when their injury was serious. Stitches? Sure, you can wait 20 minutes. It won't hurt anything.. someone in trauma, they get instantly in.

We pay enough in taxes as is - our gov't does a poor job with the tax money.
