LG G4 software update, is it worth it?

So I bought an LG g4(I know this was probably a bad time to buy it as the g5 comes in few weeks, but my phone just died and I needed a new one asap), coming from a Note 2 I'm kinda sceptical with software updates as with the note it only made the battery worse and the experience slower.

so anyways, how are the updates, can I update it without worrying too much?
