the drive model is LG N1A1DD1 purchased new December 2011.

since a few days ago, the drive is not working and keeps on beeping. it's in NAS mode on my apple airport extreme (802.11ac) network. i cannot see the drive at all. from the admin portal, it shows this message.
lg_error.png

when i connect it to my pc using USB mode, it only sees a 400G partition with no files in it. but the drive is a 1TB in size originally. where did the 600G go? i tried minitool, disktest, photorec, and others to try to find the lost partition or files but nothing worked.

please help! i should have made a backup of the drive. it has a lot of photos and music files that i would like to recover.

I also included the SMART checkup result from the LG portal under Volume menu option at the bottom of this post.

Please help.

Thank you so much.

i used TestDisk application. it showed these information.
Warning: number of heads/cylinder mismatches 597 (NTFS) != 255 (HD)
Warning: number of sectors per track mismatches 99 (NTFS) != 63 (HD)
Bad relative sector.
i think this might be why it shows 399 GB in size for the partition vs. 1TB which is the size of the NAS drive.
why would it change?
your help is very much appreciated!

SMART warnings are a sign of a failing drive. Your best bet is to try and take an image of the drive and recover your data from the image. A good Linux tool for imaging failing drives is ddrescue.

You can use macports.org to install ddrescue on a Mac.
