Hi all,
I bought this tv a month a go, TV model number is: 40ub8000 it can do 4k at 60hz just fine, but the new fallout 4 game is demanding at 4k, i am using gtx 980TI, i would like to play it at 2560x1440 @ 60hz but i don't have that option the highest it will go at 2k is 30hz, any idea why is that, i have tried setting the resolution in windows at 2k didnt help still stuck at 30hz, currently using windows 10.

Please Advise,
Thanks

That is incorrect. You do not need a new cable for HDMI 2.0. HDMI 2.0 is just needed on both sides of the hardware ie the GPU and Monitor, The cable does not need to support HDMI 2.0

my tv have hdmi 2.0 if you check the specs, also my gtx980ti have hdmi 2.0 and the cable i bought from ebay is rated at 18gbps and it is also hdmi 2.0 so i don't know whats wrong why i am capable of running 4k at 60hz and not capable of running 2k at 60hz

If its not in the manual I would email LG support. It may not support it, it may not be able to resize the image to the native 4k of the screen quick enough to support 60hz. You may have better luck using 1080p as its far easier to convert to 4k than 1440p

i mean i bought gtx 980ti to game not less than 1440p and you are right the tv only works at 60hz at these resolutions 4k and 1080P, but i thought if i am capable of running 4k at 60hz i should be able to run all the lower resolutions at 60hz but it is not the case here.

But if the TV can't support a 1440p input and rescale to 4k at 60Hz then it doesn't matter what gpu you have. The TV would need to be doing some work to convert 1440p to 4k native resolution. There might be options which compromise picture quality for Hz but that's either in the manual or something LG can tell you. It might be something else and the TV can support 1440p input @ 60Hz but its not guaranteed it can.

Ronald: Hello Mohamed. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A. Support only. How may I provide you with excellent service today?
Ronald: Greetings! Welcome to LG-US, Life's Good! This is Ronald, how can I assist you today?
Mohamed: hi
Mohamed: i am currenty using this tv as a pc monitor
Ronald: hello
Mohamed: it is capable of 4k at 60hz just fine
Mohamed: but i cant do 2k 2560x1440 at 60hz only 30hz for some reason
Mohamed: why is that
Ronald: I can gladly help you out on this one, please give me a minute or two as I look this up in my end. Please stay on the line.
Mohamed: sure no problem
Ronald: Mohamed, may I know if your PC's graphics is designed to project a 3840 x 2160 resolution?
Ronald: If not, the PC will just going to downscale the settings.
Mohamed: the video card is gta 980ti hdmi 2.0 and the hdmi cable is 2.0 18bgps
Mohamed: i have no problem with 4k
Mohamed: 4k works
Mohamed: lower resolutions dose not work at 60hz
Mohamed: like 2k at 60hz
Mohamed: i only have 30hz option when setting resolution to 2560x1440 but setting resolution to 3840x2160 is can see the 60hz option as well as 1920x1080 i can see the 60hz option
Ronald: Where are you seeing this options?
Mohamed: i have issue with refresh rate at this resolution 2560x1440 it dose not show 60hz it max out at 30hz and there a grate lag input at 30hz so i do not know what it dose not give me the 60hz option at 2k "2560x1440"
Mohamed: windows/nvidia control panel
Ronald: May I please place you on a brief hold for a minute or two while I check the information for you
Mohamed: so my questions is, is this tv capable of runing 2k at 60hz or it is defective i have resently updated the tv firmware to the latest one
Mohamed: sure
Ronald: The Tv can only support the following : 3840 X 2160p / 60.00
Ronald: and 4096 X 2160p / 60
Mohamed: only
Ronald: Yes
Mohamed: so the reset will not work at 60hz
Ronald: It is under the users manual
Ronald: page 23
Mohamed: wierd i thought it should be capable of running lower resolutions at 60hz as well can this be fixed at a later firmware or it is a panel limitation
Ronald: It is not designed to your requirement
Mohamed: i see thanks for your help
Ronald: Thank you for chatting with LG. Have a good day!
Mohamed: you to as well

as you can see i did talk to LG chat support so i can be able to copy and paste, i am so disappointed as the two option i have is 1080P at 60hz or 4k at 60hz, and fallout dose not run well at 4k as i am fps sucker and i dont like any thing below 60 fps i guess i will stick to 1080p also fallout 4 still dose not support sli profile which is sucks, thank you all for your help it is much appreciated.

Thats what i thought until i couldnt get more than 30hz, changed the cable and 60hz option appeared. That's pretty poor that it cant do 2560x1440, I have the cheap nasty Panasonic (Vestel) 4K tv and it supports that mode.

Ok do you mean in my case if I changed the cable the 60 hz might appear even after the lg support guy told me that my tv supports 1080p and 4K at 60hz only, i can give it a shot, I will use the hdmi cable supplied with my ps4 and let you know.

too late now as i own it for more that one month return policy is 14 days from date of purchase, 4k is awesome but lets be frank here the 980ti is one of the worst purchase i did, and i regret it, simply 384-bit of bandwidth is not enough for 4k not even enough for 1440p if you want this card to last as it cost me $1050 CAD, that is A LOT of money for shitty performance, so i am being forced to play at 4k every thing off/low or 1080P max out but the TV dose not scale 1080P that good and it looks like shit, so i play at 4k literally every thing is OFF, so most likely, i will upgrade to Pascal with 16gb of VRAM and it will be HBM with high bandwidth starting at 1024bit to Handel 4k, i have wasted my money on the 980ti as i got my expectation to high and i bought it on lunch without waiting for a single review if i know it will be that shitty @ 4k, i would simply waited for the next Gen cards, otherwise the 980ti @ 1080P is very good max settings, and @ high settings 1440P, but 4k will work really well in old AAA titles like Mass effect 3 as i am playing it at 4K every thing maxed out solid 60 FPS.

U can run 1440p on 4k tv at 60hz. i had same problem but i just made custom resolution from nvidia control panel and it works fine. I had same problem first that it only gave me 30hz but u can force the tv to but 1440p at 60hz by that custom resoluton that nvidia offers.
