So, I decided to repurpose my old Gigabyte P35-DS3P (rev. 1.1) using a Xeon E5472 and an adapter I found online. The adapter application went smoothly, but now I just can't get the darn thing to boot. It keeps looping with no monitor output. I have updated BIOS to latest revision, cleared CMOS and reseated RAM, all to no avail. It still works with the original Core 2 Duo (E8400) though.
I would appreciate any ideas on how to fix this. Do I have to install a microcode-injected BIOS from the get go? I've seen 771 CPUs on P35-DS3P rev 2.0, but maybe my rev 1.1 isn't as willing to accept LGA 771.
EDIT: Flashed BIOS with 771 microcode, still boot looping!
