I have an old Emachines pc with an Intel Celeron 420, LGA 775, and 2gb of ram. I want to upgrade the CPU, and I need some suggestions on what i should use. My budget is $50. Fire away.

Solution
If the PC has a 64bits OS on it and the PC is going to be used for anything remotely serious gaming or productivity wise, I'd upgrade to 4GB RAM before bothering with putting a faster CPU in it. 2GB is barely cutting it for mere web browsing these days.

I can guarantee the Celeron 450 will work, but that's hardly an upgrade at all. What specific Emachines model do you have? Alternatively, you can open up CPU-Z and see which chipset you have since that's the main factor in determining compatibility.
