Hi, I just built in the EVO XL and I must say this is the best case I had so far, and I have built in great cases from Fractal like Meshify 2, Torrent (was actually my last built based on air cooling) and also Phanteks P400A ... just to name a few. I used air cooling on all of them, so fresh intake is very important to me.
But the 14900K basically forced me to go to 420mm AIO, that's why I got the EVO XL because I can mount 420mm rad on top (exhaust). I put 3 fans on the side as intake, 3 on the bottom also as intake but those are primarily for the GPU so the rest of the system doesn't enjoy this air, and one exhaust at the rear.

The only thing that kind of worries me is the side intake fans. Can you please explain to me how the air can do a 90 degrees turn to actually flow into the case?
I know that this "turn" should reduce the air pressure by some amount , but I wonder how critical is this? Can I still rely on those 3 fans on the side to bring enough air for the system?
Also it is worth mentioning that the side intake fans are a bit far from the actual mesh where the holes are.

I would like to hear your insights about this.

As long as those side intake fans aren't turned up really high causing turbulence it'll be fine. You shouldn't be relying on those fans to do anything but bring some cooler air into the case as your bottom fans and AIO fans should basically be dictating flow. If you're concerned about airflow over DRAM/VRM area mounting a fan low on the back for exhaust would be a way to direct some more flow across.
