Hi, just wondering as this machine cant be updated with win 7 if there is any light antivirus programs still available for xp?

I have recently installed avast which took ages to boot and then the cpu was at 100% a lot of times and even web browsing was choppy.

Then installed panda and then avg which took even longer to boot up and sometimes I could not use internet browser as it would not load up.

At the moment I am using Microsoft essentials which is perfect but it will not update due to end of support for it.
e2160 cpu,d946gzis mobo and 4gb ram
thanks in advance

avira if you want full real-time protection, otherwise Clamwin is extremely lightweight but requires manually scanning questionable files but scheduling full computer scans to occur weekly is still possible.

Thanks for the reply.

I did not try avira as xp was not listed in min specs. I have now tried it and its a little smoother and has slightly less cpu consumption than avast.

Thats even with a minimal avast installation and turning of other web shield settings.

Will use avira for now then on this older spec machine (and I might install it even on my newer machine!) and thanks for bringing Clamwin to my attention it looks good
