News Linus Torvalds calls RISC-V code from Google engineer 'garbage' and that it 'makes the world actively a worse place to live' — Linux honcho puts de...

The dev in question no longer works at Google. He is at Meta now according to his Linkedin profile.

Not sure what is the purpose of putting Google in the headline. Is it to emphasize that Google engineers are garbage in general or that Linus must be wrong to insult engineers from some corps as big as Google?

As per the well-known Italian proverb — Il mele catta più mosche, che non fà l’aceto — “Honey catches more flies than vinegar.”
My countertop fruit fly trap would suggest you get the best results with a dash of the former and a bunch of the latter.

It wasn't contributions from "a Google engineer", it was from a whole team at Google. If you look at the PR, there's about a dozen names on the thing. At least give Google a chance to throw the submitter under the bus first.

Google actually succeded for the first time to made Linux a good OS with its Android and seems also going to repeat that with ChromeOS what Torvalds failed to do for 3 decades

Not sure what you are trying to say. Linus works on the kernel, that’s about it. The kernel is the basis for over 500 operating systems in active development. The top 500 supercomputers all run the Linux kernel. Tizen, webos, and almost every router, WiFi access point, baby monitors, security cameras, nas devices, and iot devices run on the Linux kernel. Almost the entire internet is running the Linux kernel. The 8000+ starlink satellites in earth orbit are running on the Linux kernel. You get the idea. It is the single most successful piece of software in history.

Android and Chrome OS run on top of the Linux kernel.

Linus Torvalds is only concerned with the Linux kernel. He lets other people do whatever they want on top of it.

The unmerged changes were probably as part of gradually preparing Linux on RISC-V for future Android .

Have you tried to work on supercomputers? All their OSes sucks and looks like a garbage of circa 1970s. In a decade or so they may start looking like the OSes you might like when Android/ChromeOS/ChromiumOS will swallow most of these 500 OSes which actually do not overweight the importance and number of uses of just one Android. Without Android Linux would still be a narrow niche product. The only Linux value is its open source and being free.

The problem with Android/ChromeOS/ChromiumOS and most end-user friendly Linux based OS's is that they are far too bloated for use in something like a supercomputer.

Any resource that isn't directly contributing to the processing of the data passing through the system is wasted.

because thats the best way to go about it.
Don't beat around bush. say it direct and as it is.
They aren't children and should not be treated as such. Life isn't rainbows & sunshine.

Exactly! Abuse in front of colleagues is good for developing careers, and any strong-minded adult should be able to absorb it, and if they can’t, well then they’re not ready for the big leagues run by a guy who hasn’t been meaningfully checked in 30+ years, basically because so many software people admire his computer skillz and also see something of themselves in his interrupted social skills.

I have been a developer and managed several projects since the mid 1980s. I would have ranted a LOT worse than he did! F*ing with my project code late in the cycle when I am heading out (vacation or military duty, I ran into both) is a crime. IF what you want or submit is GARBAGE, that is another crime and arguably a CAPITAL crime! I do not understand HOW he holds his temper!

Wasted if you think that the only what supercomputers do is to give more precise two X and Y numbers for coordinates of Captain Flint buried treasures. When in reality most of their projects on such supercomputers like Frontier or Aurora generate petabytes and not just of memory swap data. You can not realistically download that massive 2D and 3D modeling data for processing even with 10 gigabit internet and have to deal with it on supercomputers working there like a Neanderthals using so belowed by Linux users Terminal/Command prompt
