Im building a new gaming pc and i dont want to spend 80+ dollars on an OS. Linux is free and i've heard that it can play most games on steam, if not, all. Im going to get linux mint 17.1 cinnamon. If someone could tell me the majority of the games that mint will be able to run, that would be very very helpful! thank you! Also, would linux mint be able to play massive triple A titles such as CoD or minecraft or BF4? thank you

There are many many versions of linux. such as ubuntu, mint, redhat and hundreds more. Can you tell me why you say linux cant play most games on steam?

most linux versions are based on basically the same OS re-skinned. if you dont want to spend 80+ bucks on an OS, you can get windows 8.1 pro threw the microsoft website, via the student version. look online for tutorials. its basically windows 8.1 pro for only 70 bucks. that will let you run any game you want.

Ugh yeah... unfortunately youre just right. haha. Can you help me find a way to get windows 8.1 for cheap? i COULD spend the money on the windows 8.1 OS but id really rather not.

I heard that the $70 8.1 for students is an upgrade, so if you don't already have some form of windows installed its useless (aka new pc's), correct me if im wrong.

OP I'm literally in the same boat right now. JUST finished my built, with everything but the OS, and thats the only thing stopping me from turning it on for the first time haha.

no, its a totally new copy. the "upgrade" is that microsoft said that everyone that has bought a copy of windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will get a free year of windows 10.

I watched that already. thank you though. nobody is selling keys for windows 8.1 anywhere anymore. atleast i cant find anyone who is. do you know any where i can get just a key for windows 8.1?
