Linux Virtual Machine

I have 8 GB of ram and an AMD FX6300 processor which is a six core. I want to run Ubuntu Linux on something like virtual-box. Do I have enough RAM to do this?

Yes.
I have a LinuxMint VM running in VirtualBox. I dedicated 2GB RAM to it. It runs just fine.
And it only uses that when it is actually running.
