I have the CenDyne 24x DVD/CD Rewriter. (LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1S 5.25" Disk Drive)...
It's installed in my new build, and the only way to get the disk tray open is in my "This PC" window, right-click the DVD/CD Drive & hit Eject. To close it I need to push it closed. But the physical button on the Disk Drive won't do anything. I can't find the drivers for it either, although I think that Windows 8 installed them automatically somehow? Because the Disk Drive is recognizing & reading everything I put in it. It's just the button that's not doing anything.

Thanks ahead of time, guys.

Solution
The button it self may have failed(momentary contact switch). Optical drives have not needed special drivers since the early 90s(even then it was for DOS as Windows had built in drivers as well).

Unless you are willing to open the drive and try to solder in a new switch, I think you are doing about all you can to use it.

These buttons only last so long and sometimes they do not even last as long as they are rated for(it is kind of like a mouse loosing its ability to click after so many clicks).

I just bought it from Micro Center. It's brand new. Should I return it?
(thanks for the speedy response)

Yes you should. get a replacement. Defect happen.

You can also power down the system, disconnect the DATA cable from the drive and then power up the system. Windows will not see the drive, but this will ALWAYS ensure the button is working as no software can lock the drive in this state. It is just to confirm the drive button is not working. I often forget a disc in the computer and just power it on long enough to hit the button and remove it(I generally enter the bios before powering down just so the system does not complain about a power failure.).

For this reason, I like my external drive. Even if the computer is off, it has its own power to remove the disc :)
