Hello all,

I've been having this issue on various computers ever since Windows update KB3213986 where after I leave for the day (and especially after the weekend) I'll come back in the morning and be greeted by the lock screen. When I push a button on the keyboard or mouse the lock screen image slides up, the circle dots start to spin for a few seconds and then the lock screen image falls back down. The computer is unresponsive until it is fully locked again, and then the process repeats.

I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this issue as I can't seem to find any information on it from the Google.

All computers are running Trend AV also, I suspect this may have something to do with it.

TIA!

I guess its a work PC as why not just turn it off when you done with it?

i wonder if startup repair would fix it - I can't think of another way to fix the lock screen, and it shows at start up.. so maybe.
from desktop, go to settings/update & security/recovery/Advanced Startuip
this restarts to a blue menu
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose start up repair - this will scan PC and maybe fix this - will ask for logon info

Thanks for your reply!

The issue is that many people, myself included, like to leave things they were working on open overnight and shutting down the PC would force that to close. Right now though, the only way to get in to the computer is to hard reboot via the power button so their wanting that is kind of moot.

So far the only solution I've found has been to remove KB3213986. This only worked temporarily as Microsoft now forces you to install their updates regardless of whether they break things. I don't believe start up repair would affect this issue at all as it is not a start up issue. I have run SFC and DISM /restorehealth but neither one found any issues.

You could set power options up so monitor shuts down after a few hours but PC never sleeps, that is how I have my PC set after it had fun restarting monitor after sleep.

various computers? is it on same user or different ones?

nothing obvious in patch notes as to why its doing it on multiple PC: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/4009938/windows-10-update-kb3213986 - are PC's up to date as they released a new Patch in the last few days - I got it earlier.

We're on the long term branch for business so we're about 2 weeks behind on updates. They are all HP computers but vary by model. Our computers are already set never to sleep and the monitors don't even turn off automatically. It seems just sitting at the lock screen for a long period of time causes this.

Yeah, it seems Microsoft is not aware of this. I actually just updated my computer to the latest update about a week ago and it has been happening more frequently than before.

search google for fixes and all it shows is how to disable lock. I assume thats not ideal on business machines. This stops the lock screen appearing on idle, that might be what is happening: http://blog.jocha.se/tech/disable-windows-10-automatic-locking-screen

I knew not to offer DISM/SFC as they fix files, not functions. Other things in windows could use troubleshooters (I just looked, nothing handy). I don't know how to fix lock screen

If you weren't on business I would say that next months update of Win 10 is a new Version update, but as you on Business I wouldn't know when you get that version, maybe 2 weeks later. Version updates are fresh installs so might fix this problem when it replaces Windows.

So it looks like you can disable the lock screen by renaming or removing the folder C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy. I will be trying that on a few PCs and seeing what happens. Thanks again for your help!
