[SOLVED] locked at 144hz on 1440p monitor

I've recently brought a new monitor (Gigabyte M27Q). It's a 1440p monitor with a 170Hz refresh rate. I currently have this hooked up to my laptop which has a RTX 30 series GPU. My problem is that the monitor is locked at 144Hz.

My laptop only has a HDMI 2.1 output whilst the monitors HDMI port is only 2.0. Would I be right to assume that's why the refresh rate won't go any higher. If so, Is there some sort of adapter I can get to resolve this e.g. a HDMI 2.1 to Display port adapter (the monitor also supports display port) ?

Now, the 18Gbps of HDMI 2.0 assumes video delivery with HDR, 4:4:4 chroma, and 10-bit color coding. At a resolution of 3840 x 2160, that would fill up the entire bandwidth with a maximum framerate of 60Hz, and often 4:4:4 won’t be possible, only 4:2:2. However, if we can force 8-bit color coding (16.7 million colors), no HDR, and 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, then 4K 120Hz actually turns out to “cost” about 16Gbps, which is technically possible on HDMI 2.0.

So as soon as you hit HDMI 2.0, you can't get above 120Hz. At 4k anyway. At 1440 I'm assuming that's why you are stuck at 144Hz. I'm not sure how well...

Thanks mate, appreciate the quick response. Think I'd have to do some research of the right cable to get then.
I know they few extra hertz aren't probably gonna make a massive difference at all but figured I've payed for them. Might as well get what I've payed for.
