I would hate to get an unlocked 2400 over a Barton... but like all of us here, I sure would like for it to be unlocked...

I trust newegg and a few other sites, but does anyplace with a good reputation still have unlocked Bartons for sale...

unlocking a locked one is different than buying an unlocked one... and if the unlocking is anything like what had to be done with a Palomino, then that is a whole new ball of wax and might be well out of my league... but getting an unlocked one like the one I bought in October is what interests me... but I will search for such an article, just the same... but that was not my question...

Boy... is the 512 cache on the Barton worth it if you can only get 2000 MHz or so when a 2400 can still reach 2200+ MHz easily? I suppose there are still a LOT more people reaching 2200 with a Barton than not...

Too late... I ordered another Barton 2500+ retail from newegg... I will post what I get later this week...

Are the non- barton xps still unlocked? My 2400+ performs almost as well as my 2500+ at 2.25 gigs. Dif in perf= dif in price. If forced to choose between an unlocked 24 and a locked 25, I would go for the 24. This is even more true with non nvidia chipset mobos.

I think they're going to lock all of their XP chips; however they started first with the Bartons and Thortons, IIRC.

newegg still has lots of 2400+ T-breds... I hate it when buyer's remorse sinks in... but there is a good chance I will get a good chip...

Dang... there was a problem withmy order... and I have more time to think about a $75.00 oem unlocked 2400+ over the locked Barton... the extra 256 in cache may not be worth it... this is a gaming machine built for the sole reason to have a friend or family member play games on...

And when I upgrade my main board, I already have an unlocked Barton to play with...
