It's pretty cool from the solar charging perspective, but I think it's appearance and complete lack of ergonomic considerations kill it for me.
I've used wireless keyboards exclusively for at least the past 5 years now. You only have to change the batteries every 4 months or so on any that I've used, and you get ample warning (several weeks worth) that batts are low prior to them dying.
It would be a great way to "go green" if they'd offer this as a feature on some of their nicer keyboards.
I really like the idea, but I'm not a fan of this particular design. Still, if the idea catches on and the product live to it's promises, they will eventually release a keyboard that I will buy.
Also, they should put in a little LCD on it. It already does look like an oversize calculator.
MS needs to get on this and make their wireless natural keyboards have solar panels too. Or Logitech needs to make an ergonomic model as good as MS. Then I'll get one.

I'd love to have a solar cell on my Microsoft natural wireless ergonomic keyboard 7000. The current logitech ergo options aren't quite as good, but with a minor redesign and some solar cells it could be the winrar.
[citation][nom]juncture[/nom]On another note, is this wired or wireless? needs to transfer data to computer somehow and $80 seems a little cheap to be wireless AND solar powered.[/citation]
If it was wired there would be no point in having a second power source to power it...

maybe the advantage of having it solar-powered and wired would be the wire could be ultra thin! lol idk good point man
Nice and about time someone brought one of these....batteries are toxic so even tough i change mine once every six months i dont beleive i'm the only one on earth that uses a wireless keyboard...its a start
Its crazy so many didnt get the article, i dont think they didnt read i just think most don't know what ambient light is
People read the post plz!! This keyboard is POWERED BY BATTERIES NOT SOLAR PANALs LIKE CRAPPY CALCULATORS!!! You do not need a constant light source in order to use keyboard. The solar panel is to charge the batteries!!!!. Yes you game in the dark GREAT you can do it for 3 months in pictch black!!. turn the lights on for one whole day and you get 3 more months. But realisticly you get up in the morning and turn the lights on to put cloths on or the sun casts ambiant light through the windows during the day. Bam thats enough to keep it charge indefinitly! READ CRITICLY NOT SUPERFICIALY. This keyboard has the potential to never die! If you think that your room that no solar device of anykind will work then seek immediate help!
Yes because a cord on your keyboard is a major hassle. Honestly who types with a keyboard wirelessly? You should just get a laptop. And finally what ype of person who uses a desktop is always by the sun and willing to pay $80 for a keyboard. Only gamers will usually pay that much for a keyboard, and they aren't going to be a) playing in a bright place b) using wireless.
Businesses which actually get light aren't going to be forking over $80 when their 5 year old keyboards work just as well.
It's 2.4Ghz wireless using the Logitech Unified Receiver, so only one USB port is needed to control one of their compatible mice and the keyboard at the same time.

The photoelectric cells are used to charge the batteries of the keyboard, not to operate the keyboard, so you can use the keyboard in utter darkness. When you're at work or not using the computer the keyboard is being recharged, whether the computer is on or not.
Sounds like an great idea. If you game at night using this keyboard, just be sure to leave it somewhere bright during the day and it will charge the batteries. Another use for a wireless keyboard like this is gaming with a big screen TV. I would love to hook up my PC directly to a 48+ inch LCD/LED and sit comfortably on the sofa.
One more idea: solar recharge station for a matching wireless mouse. Dock the mouse and keyboard when not in use and save even more batteries.
