Question Long windows 11 shutdown times

Hey guys,

My main rig signature below, is a Ryzen 5 2600X, Gigabyte DS3H 450M, 32gb ddr4 3000 memory and a 512gb sata ssd, takes maybe 1-1.5 minutes to shut down. I would say no big deal. Recently, I saw a deal on a Ryzen 7 5800x on sale, so I took advantage of this and replaced the cpu as well as installing 32 ddr4 3200 memory. A simple remove and replace and altough my computer is faster, it takes even longer to shutdown, sometimes about 5 minutes before the computer to shut itself off. is there a reason why it is doing this and how can I address this issue? TIA.

My specs;
Amd Ryzen 7 5800x
Gigabyte DS3H 450m
2 x 16gb ddr4 3200 memory
Cooler Master AIO Cooler
Rosewill Gungnir X Case
Intel 545s 512gb ssd
12tb seagate hard drive
MSI Rx 6650 XT 8gb video card,

Did you update the BIOS prior to dropping in the Ryzen 7 5800x? What BIOS version are you on at this moment of time?

as well as installing 32 ddr4 3200 memory
Got a link to the ram you picked up to get 32GB's of DDR4-3200MHz?

I noticed you have your specs in your sig space. You're advised to include the specs to your build in the thread's body since sig space specs can and will change over time. When that happens it renders this thread and possible suggestions moot to the user in the same boat as you're in. I've shoehorned your specs in the thread's body.

Can you elaborate on the AIO you're working with to cool the processor? What sort of temps do you see on your CPU and GPU prior to shutting down? Your specs don't include the make and model of your PSU. Please include the age of the unit as well.

The bios version is gigabyte ds3h 450m is f62d which supports the 5800x and the 2600x. Not the latest bios but I am thinking of upgrading the bios is the next thing.

here's the link to the memory.

The cooler is this which runs at around 72c under load, so I don't think this is the issue. I brought the ryzen 2600x and the mobo at around February 2020. The age of the unit is just parts of the computer which I upgrade from time to time.

I have a Rosewill Capstone 750w power supply which is probably about 5-6 years old. Thanks for responding.

if you did not reinstall windows, it will have a list of hardware that belong to the old cpu and a list of hardware for the new cpu.
the list for the old cpu will not respond and can delay the startup or shutdown process.

after installing the new cpu, you need to reset the bios to defaults to get it to rebuild the database that the bios sends to windows.
I would normally just reinstall windows but you might also just go into windows control panel, device manager. find the option to show hidden devices in the view menu, turn it on, then look thru the list of greyed out hardware and delete each greyed out entry in the hardware tree.

If you look here ^ F62d doesn't exist, they either pulled it due to instability/issues or a better/stable BIOS was uploaded as a follow up. I would flash to the latest version, then clear the CMOS by disconnecting from the wall and display, remove the CMOS battery, press and hold down the power button for 30secs to drain residual power before replacing the CMOS battery after 30mins.

thats normal for Gigabyte, the BIOS I am using doesn't exist on its site now either. Its likely it was a beta as they go through a few letters after number before they pick a version to stop on. Might even happen still to current one as I wouldn't have installed a Beta had I known it would disappear again.

seems F62d was causing errors when people tried to flash image, so probably why it was replaced/removed

I should flash it but hey, it works. :)

Thanks. The reason why I didn't flash in the first place was that I was afraid of the compatibility with my existing Ryzen 5 2600x. I did flash the latest bios F67d and it didn't fix the issue. I will try the trick about removing the cmos battery thing later.

If that doesn't work, I guess the next to do is to re-install windows, but I will do this when I have time.

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

just worth a try.

did you update chipset drivers?
