I am looking at purchasing a high-end/gaming laptop for school. I will be doing a variety of tasks on the laptop, but I'm predicting that I will be taking notes/watching videos while on battery and using resource intensive programs like Autodesk or Photoshop/Premier Pro while plugged in. I've been looking at the Razer laptops since they seem to have high end specs while still being relatively thin and light. It also seems to have a pretty good battery life of about 5ish hours, which is what I will need for school. The New Razer Blade laptop with the GTX 1060 caught my eye. Would the battery life be better with the GTX 1060 compared to the GTX 960m/970m. Are there laptops that are similar to it? Would it be better investing in a laptop with a GTX 960m/GTX970m or waiting for the Razer Blaze or similar laptops to be released/available to buy without preorders.

tl;dr Looking for high end laptop for school. Notes/videos/light browsing on battery. AutoCAD/video editing when plugged in. Minimum 5 hours. Lightish in weight and small/somewhat thin. Razer Blade w/ 1060 good choice? Similar laptops?

Wants

nvidia gtx 960m or better, or nvidia 10xx series
16 gb ram
512gb ssd

I would recommend one of the following:

http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-gl502vs-db71.html?startcustomization=1
http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-gt62vr-dominator-pro-087.html?startcustomization=1

You get a really awesome GPU (1070) which is significantly faster than 1060. The trade off is that you get a 256 GB SSD (you could get a 512GB one by paying around $70 more, though).

Or if you want to stay strictly within the stated budget you could get the following:

http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-gl502vm-db74.html?startcustomization=1 (it has 512Gb SSD and comes with GTX 1060).

5 hrs battery life on a gaming laptop? that is a bit tricky but the last one i mentioned claims to have a battery life of 4+ hrs...

This one claims to have a 5+ hr life but it's 17" so definitely not very portable compared to the rest.
