Perfect. When your .sig starts with "-- " it will be automagically
trimmed by most newsreaders when replying.

(e.g. I replied to your posting without trimming *anything*).

Apparently your newsreader snips them even if they start incorrectly
with
"--[new line" rather than
"-- [new line]", same as mine (OE with OE-Quotefix). I remember that
OE used to snip the blank even if you entered it in your signature,
let's see if Quotefix fixes that too.

Nope, still not in the proper format. You already have the dash dash, all
you need to do now is press the space bar and then enter.

oops
Brian Brunner said it worked ok. Opera's mail client gets a little flaky
sometimes, maybe that's the culprit.

Marcel is right. To be really perfect you need a space after the 2 hyphens.
A news agent detects the '-- ' and dosn't quote the sig.
The full technical backgound is descript in a document called
Son-Of-RFC-1036
The sig delimiter is discussed in Section 4.3.2. Body Conventions

So help me I haven't changed anything!! :-(
Seems I had to use Xnews that first time because Opera was being
hardheaded- I bet the space got lost during copy-paste of the message. At
any rate, looking below there is clearly a space after --. If it is still
messed up, then piss on it. 😛
