I am looking for a tower air cooler for a Ryzen 9 5900XT (16C/32T). The system currently has an ID Cooling tower with the 120mm fan. It was alongside a Ryzen 5 5600 on the initial build and worked really well for the price (less than $20). On the Ryzen 9 it does actually work fine for the current hardware with the specific element for load in this case being an RX 6600XT. Temps never go out of the 70C range with any game but can approach about 80+ on synthetic benchmarks. Idle temps are often high 30's but even moving the mouse puts it at 45+. I expect that when I change power supply and the graphics card over to the 7800 XT that the additional load is going to surpass this budget coolers ability to keep things cool (and somewhat quiet)
I have been looking at the Dark Rock Pro 5 and the Noctua NH whatever the heck 150mm fan monster of a cooler. I realize in both those cases that the cooler is going to become the centerpiece and likely the only thing really visible for the upper part of the motherboard. In this case there is a decent looking Tomahawk board and I really don't want to cover all of it up with that large a cooler.
Between the two above I am leaning towards the Dark Rock Pro 5 mostly due to lessened noise on the silent mode and the fact that it is just a good looking cooler. I am already aware that the Noctua would (surprisingly) be louder than the Dark Rock (on silent mode) but also note that for loads at/above the 100W level that the Noctua performs better.
I was wondering if there is a cooler other than the Peerless Assassin that is smaller than the above but still able to keep the Ryzen 9 tamed?
With the ID cooling I have kept a 5800X very happy by adding a second fan. In this case it did not do the trick. I currently have two 140mm fans in the case directly above the cooler which is helping. As an aside, nothing LED or unicorn fart manner of presence...(edit) and BLACK.
I appreciate your input in relation to something you have actually used or are using.
