First off I would like to say that I am new here and have been fixing and building computers for about 10 years now as a hobby, and have been finding a lot of useful information on this site over the years through google searches, so thanks everyone for that.

Now for my problem, Ive been having some strange sound problems lately across multiple sound cards and have come to the conclusion that it most likely has to be my aging 6 year+ Corsair TX which I wouldn't be surprized if it died while writing this, if anyone cares to know or might have another conclusion, the problem is buzzing through my headphones and mic while in a game.

Now my dillemma - I am not a fan of modular power supples, I'm going to be using just about the majority of the wires as it is why would i want the wires coming out of PSU from 10 different points when it's much neater to just have them bundled together especially considering I have a bottom PSU mount in my Antec 300 right in plain view and my harddrives are right across from it and it seems the selection of high quality, high output power supples are all modular.

So you know my problem and why I don't like modular, is there any 700+ watt Tier 1 or 2 PSU that's non-modular, I looked over the list myself checking out alot of them but maybe there's one I overlooked because Ive never heard of the brand or something.

It's a antec 300, the front panel audio/usb has a dedicated grounding wire and my multimeter continuity test is telling me I have good ground all the way to at least the plug on the wall, whether the outlets grounded or not I'm not sure how I can safely test.

My origiinal sound card the Asus Xonar DX was giving me buzzing in the rear and at the front panel, I suspected it might be the card going bad. I should note this card has a dedicated floppy power connector.

The replacement card I picked up, the Creative Audigy FX does not have a floppy connector and is only giving me buzzing at the front panel.

Moving around the front panel connector wire gave me a lot of different buzzing noises depending on where the wire was currently located.

I tried a 450 watt power supply from staples and the buzzing seemed gone, altho I was only able to run one of my 960's off of it, but I have produced buzzing with only 1 card running off my corsair.

All of this led me to believe I just have a lot of EMI going on inside the case from a faulty power supply.

That seems like it's worth a shot, ill experiment and see what I find. Altho the first thing Ill do is just remove the front panel grouding wire from the case, shouldnt be a need to take the thing apart like he did.

Okay so removing the grounding wire changed the pitch of the buzz so then I removed the usb connector for the front panel and it seems the audio and USB share a ground, so now I have no buzz. I am amazed, thank you so much hahah. next step I guess is im gonna have to take the thing apart to cut the ground so I can use the front USB.

Update

Now after fixing that ive now noticed I have an actual audible buzzing sound coming from inside my case when tabbed into game, and it seems like its coming from the graphic cards, so if it is the graphic cards making the sound I imagine the power supply could still be the culprit?

I had actually looked at that one but was unsure about it because I didnt see it on the Tier list, I actually picked up a Antec truepower classic 750, I think it will do the trick and ill report back if I still experience any coilwhine.
