I'm looking for a smartphone (preferably Android) on a budget of about $170-$200 AUD. It would be nice for it to be running 5.0 lollipop or higher but it isn't necessary. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't really know the prices there, but the Moto G3 or Moto E are always nice choices.
Or, based on tomshardware recommendations, Asus ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML 2gb 1.8GHz) is a really good choice. I have bought the Asus recently and I'm very happy with it. It has Android 5.0, and will soon upgrade to 6.0.

(Just be careful because it is not yet compatible with Pokemon Go, if you intended to play that)

this took a few google searches to try to find im familar with aud prices being a pain in the rear but i found something in your price range

https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-agora-6/

this phone packs a 8 core
and a 2gb ram
16gb to start off

so it should run stuff smooth enough pokemon go etc rule of thumb if it has 2gb of ram that should be enough

1gb of ram is a hell no as the os itself takes up half of that
