OK, so my wife is tired of her old featurephone not always getting reception -- it's probably 5 or more years old -- and she's debating whether we need a "landline" phone anymore (even though it's technically VoIP), as her younger brother has been smartphone-only for a year or so now.
Currently, we use Tracfone for our cellphones, & we tend to pay an average of $15/month each (extra airtime every 90 days costs $30-45USD), & with taxes & fees we're paying about $35/month for Earthlink TrueVoice, so that works out to about $65/month for overall phone service.
We don't necessarily care about iOS vs. Windows Phone vs. Android; although we both have iPod touches (4th generation, Wi-Fi only) and her work provided her with an iPad (Wi-Fi only, no data plan), her brother has an Android smartphone, and she's more than tech-savvy enough to figure out any smartphone out there. Her main thing will probably be not wanting to have to shell out a lot of money for a smartphone, but if it comes down to it she'll pay for a phone that gives the features she wants. She's seen some ads for Wal-Mart's Straight Talk service, but as long as it's a) a no-contract plan, and b) close to what we currently pay for our services, I think she'll be open to just about any carrier. My question is, does Tom's Hardware (or any of its other sites) have anything showing comparisons between the various carriers's plans? I rely on the charts on Tom's Hardware when comparing CPUs & GPUs, so I would hope they offer something similar in this area. At the very least, is there something that compares the different plans (X minutes per month calling vs. unlimited, Y texts per month vs. unlimited, bandwidth limits & caps, etc.), & maybe even indicates what types of phones are available?
