Question Looking for a free file encryption software

Hey I am looking for a free file encryption that easy to use. It also has to be compatible with Windows 10 Home Ed.
Any recommendations?

Several options:

If you want to be able to work with file/folders completely transparently, go for Veracrypt.

If the goal is to pack and compress the files (eg. backup or to send via insecure channel) then you'd go for 7zip.

Essentially I want to create a password doc on my home PC

a single file is easy in 7-zip or maybe winrar.

right click it, add to archive and select encryption method.

unlock it to use it, then it'll re-encrypt when done.

not really the best way though as you can actually brute force the file from those programs so not the best for sensitive data.

for passwords i use lastpass to keep em safe. it's free for as many pc's you want to put it on (or mobile devices but not both at once). you have the master password and no one else does. it syncs in the cloud so you can access it from as many pc's as you want and it allows for not just passwords but secure notes and anything else you want to put into it. gets a big thumbs up from me.

Don't do this.

Use a password vault application like KeePass, LastPass, or 1Password.
