Hello everyone.

I have been introduced to pc gaming on a Macbook Air and after over 2 years of use (and saving money), I have decided to upgrade to a pc meant to push higher frame rates in my favourite games.

After conducting some research online, I am looking at some sort of current generation i5 or R5 build with either a GTX 1060 6gb or a GTX 1070.

I have decided to ask for help from you, the community, on this matter.

My question is: What is the “best” CPU and GPU pairing for me to play CS:GO and other games like Rust, GTA, maybe Fortnite?

Keep in mind my preference towards bang for the buck options and the i5/R5 guidelines.

Thank you to all who take the time to read and respond to me, this PC build means the world to me and your help is priceless.

I can tell you that different games have different requirements. There is a difference between what CSGO needs and what GTA V needs. If you want to play a wide range of games then it'll cost you more money.

So then the best way to do this is figure out what the most demanding game you want to play is and pick your components based on that. You already mention the 1060 to 1070 so you are in the right ball park for great 1080p+ gaming.

A new Intel i5 gets you 6 cores/6 threads. A Ryzen 5 is at least 4 cores/8 threads. If all you will do is play games, the Intel is probably your best bet. If you will do more, such as stream your games, I'd suggest a 6 core/12 thread Ryzen.

1060 vs 1070 really depends on the monitor. 1080p 60hz? A 1060 6gb should do it. High refresh rate or 1440p? Get the 1070.

Just as a requested update: my monitor is an Asus 1080p 144hz monitor (VGE something)

My current pc is actually still the macbook air (i5 2 cores/4 threads, Intel Integrated Graphics 6000). To make a long story short, this is a big upgrade for me.
