Hi there guys.

I'm looking for an cheap and acceptable monitor for gaming. I play mainly MMO, RPG's and some FPS games. I really do not want to spend a lot in monitor. I can't decide if is better an 23"-24" or a 27" but with 1080p, i think a 23"-24" will be enought, anyway I come from a 15.4" laptop screen, something higher is so good.

My options are:

  • Asus VS247H-P 23.6"
    Asus VE248H 24"
    Asus VN247H-P 23.6"
    Asus VX238H-W 23"
    AOC E2461FWH 23.6"
and some 27" (only if really really worth it)

  • Samsung S27E390H 27"
    Asus VE278H 27"

Anyway, I'm open to hear another options, will be appreciated (and sorry for the big list, I'm not good to take decisions). Thank you.

Most people (especially monitor fanatics) will suggest not getting a 1080p monitor larger than 24" due to the low DPI at say 27". I'm not one of these, but most peoples eyesight is better than mine and are likely more sensitive to the larger pixels.

In my experience ASUS makes pretty good monitors. Samsung are good too and less costly than ASUS.

If you are a gamer, low refresh times (1 - 2, no more than 5 mS) are what you want. High frequency monitors are also desirable, particularly in FPS's. So 120Hz or 144Hz are nice.

Actually I have a 32" TV in like 3 feets from me and I can't see anything bad, but I've never try it in games. I'm really considering the 144Hz above, but the price is higher than my budget allow me. Thanks.

In games the effect of the low DPI are less pronounced because the picture displayed is typically dynamic. However on desktop stuff (where in the image is static) and text can look poor with lower DPI. Again, I don't appear to be sensitive to this.

High refresh monitors are going to be more expensive than their 60Hz counterparts.

What GPU do you have? If you are looking for a cheap 144hz monitor, I would go with the AOC G2460FQ. But if you dont have a good GPU you shouldn't buy a 144 Hz monitor.

Yeah, they are so expensive and hard to find, at least in my country.

I have a GTX 960 right now, but in six or seven months I'd like to get an upgrade with the 980 or 980i. Mainly is 70% for gaming and rest for work (Excel) and photo edition, I've heard that panel IPS is better for this, but no so good for gaming, but I don't know how true is it.

Well until you upgrade your GPU, you might not get most of the benefit of a higher refresh monitor. Do you find that your framerate regularly and consistently goes over 60Hz. The 960 is a good card, but even at 1080p it will struggle to run at 60FPS with higher detail settings, of course that's game dependent.
