Hey guys trying to decide on a gpu. Ive had my eye on the sapphire r9 290x. Just asking to see what you would recommend as this is my first build. Im predominantly using it for gaming.

Budget for gpu-1000 CAD
Amd fx 8320 cpu
Sabertooth 990 fx motherboard
16gb kingston hyperx black

I personally would go with the GTX 780 ti. Though I am one who enjoys Nvidia technologies more than AMD's. I would learn a bit more about each cards own benefit if you haven't already. The r9 290x is good, though I understand people say the 290 has around the same performance with a cheaper price tag. Make sure you DON'T buy an AMD 290 or 290x with a reference design cooler. May I ask what resolution you are playing at? These are the highest end cards available, and aren't recommended for 1080p gaming. I have the 770 and its great. I run everything at ultra while being able to maintain a constant 60 fps (with v-sync) in games such as Battlefield 4. If money isn't an issues at all, then go for the best, but keep in minds thar I run...
290X's are a bit ridiculous priced due to BitCoin mining. They may drop with some of the recent news, but they are still going to be over priced for a while. If you're spending that king of money for a card, I'd look at either the 280X or 780 I just got a EVGA 770 4gb card, and love it so far. <== Selling my 670 on ebay if you want one of those. LOL

But really.... the 290x's are way to overpriced right now.

Im going to playing games like battlefield 4 skyrim and rome total war 2

Im going to be playing on 1080p

Also was reading about zotac 780amp and it said it has the same preformance as the ti but at a liwer cost. Would you recommend this card?

It's always better to ask questions then be sorry later.
Generally I would say anything other than EVGA, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI. However, that is not to say other brands are always bad and broken. It's just that those 4 are more well known to be better quality proven by their ratings on many GPUs.

You will be fine with that processor. You wont bottleneck it unless you have something like an i3. Watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAgpvWc4VBM

Neither is better for overall gaming. I like Nvidia because of shadowplay, PhysX, and the style of their stock coolers. The question is rather which is better for what you are doing. Battlefield 4 is optimized for AMD cards, but Nvidia performs better when it comes to the 780ti and 290x. When the 290x is basically on overclocked mode and the 780ti is on its normal mode, the 780ti beats the 290x by 5-11 fps. Though if you overclocked eventually, the Nvidia in general (you can never guarantee with overclocking, since each silicon piece is different) you get better performance. But for you, I would go with Nvidia. Though the 290x isnt bad, but for the same price, I would choose Nvidia. I am not biase at all, I like both, I almost got a 280x until they raised the price.

ASUS makes the best, MSI is good too. I have a stock cooler 770 (same as the 780ti's), and it shoots hot air out of the case. The non-stock/reference cards put hot air into the case, so make sure you have good exhaust.
