Looking for a laptop under $900 that can game and I wanted to know if the msi GP70 2OD-027US was a good choice?

Solution
Is there a specific reason why you are picking a laptop? Because if you are thinking that you can't build a pretty K!ck A55 system at the $900 price range, you'd be pretty surprised on what you can come up with.

Pretty high end if you ask me. not only that I bet you somebody can come up with a better configuration than the one I provided.

or

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ Outlet PC)
Motherboard: ASRock H87M Pro4/ASM...
If you want a laptop to game on a budget I would go more with an AMD laptop with something like an A10 or A8 richland, they are powerfull and the CPU is... enough for what you will do I will assume. A better option than what you currently show.

Ex: Acer V5-552G-X414 or Toshiba Satellite S75D-A7346

If you can find one with an A-10 and dual graphics you'll get some decent performance for around 700 or so. I picked one up on sale for 580.00. 17", gaming at 1600x900 and does pretty well considering.
