if all that is available to you is the 760, then that's what you have to go for. since your going to a local store to buy take this with you
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html print the chart out or call it up on your phone to reference. this organizes the cards into tiers to show relative performance.
as you look over the selection, you can at least be able to see what should cost what in relation to the other cards. so the gtx 760 is on about the 7th tier and you know what it costs. if there is something else cheaper you can look and see how far it drops on the list or maybe even goes up if your lucky. that card is on the same tier as the amd 270x which will perform well at 1080p on high for most games without some of the eye candy for the newest games. i would not go any further down the list than this tier if you can help it.
this list has been invaluable to me as i looked at cards and such since it is almost impossible to keep all the numbers straight as to what is better than what.
wish there was more we could offer but this is about the best we can.
you also did not answer the question about your psu. before you go shopping please be sure you have a good enough psu to run whatever your looking to buy. check the power connectors to see what/how many pcie connectors you have as well as what kind of 12v amps you have available. you should be around 45 amps or more on the rail to be comfortable with the 270x/gtx 760 level cards. any less and your risking failure and possible damage to your pc. to get a better card, you need better power.
if your not sure then post your psu model here and i'll take a quick look and let you know where you stand.
