Hi guys,
I am looking to buy a new gaming AMD CPU. It needs to be able to run games like gta v on high settings at about 60fps (my GPU is a sapphire r9 390). I don't want to spend any more than $200 but I want to overclock to at least 4GHz.
Many thanks, Chris

Is there a reason amd? Not a good purchase currently as all architectures are old.

Best off with an I5 6500 and a h110 motherboard or something. Far better performance than any amd processor currently.

Zen is imminent so you could hold out.

It might help to know what your current motherboard and CPU are. The only real decent gaming CPUs from AMD at the moment, are likely the FX 6300 and/or FX 8320/8350 Black Editions. Those run from under $100 (about $94 for the 6300) to around $160 for the 8350. and can be found cheaper still with sales on NewEgg, Amazon, Best Buy or Fry's. However, if you are running an FM2+ board, then a new motherboard would also be required. The GPU can be used on nearly any motherboard (above a mini ITX) that is from the current to last 3 generations.
Also keep in mind, with that GPU you will want to limit your CPU to 125W or under for draw...and even then, you'll want a minimum 550W power supply. Give us an idea of your current setup to find you the least expensive options going forward.
