Hey guys back in 2011 i purchased a Toshiba Satellite C640 (PSC00A-00K00W). It came with an Intel Pentium P6200 and 2 GB of ram.
I was wondering if I could upgrade the CPU and if so what is the best CPU i can get?

thanks

V000238010 is the part number of the system board for the laptop and it does have a removable cpu.
your best bet is to email toshibia ask them what is the max speed and or voltage that the cpu can be used on this system board and laptop. if not see if you can find a local toshiba repair place see if they have the cd repair book for your laptop., in it is a listing of all spare parts. one of them may be a faster cpu.

myself i would add more ram and max your ram out if you can first.then i would back your data up and put a clean image if you havent done it yet in a while also use hdtune check that your hard drive still good in the laptop. i would then if it still slow wait for the newer skylake laptops and see if you can donate the old...
For a 2011 laptop? You most likely won't be able to upgrade it. Most all new laptops (made after, say 2009) have done away with socketed CPU's to save production costs and make them thinner, so they are soldered directly to the logic board.

Thank you for the correction. It's socket 988, which depending on your chipset (which is Intel HM55) and power (TDP) ceiling, it would take anything from your Pentium up to a Core i7. Since most of the 1st gen Core family CPU's for laptops are 35W TDP (with the exception of the i7's which are 45W), I would say it would take the i3's up to the i5 with 35W. Your Pentium is 35W. I would do a search for other models of that Satellite and see which CPU's they have. Chances are you'll find one within the same SKU or part number and it will have a better CPU. The ONLY limitation you'd have is your BIOS. If your BIOS doesn't support the new chip, you'll have to update it (if possible). I concur and would call Toshiba support. They were real helpful when I sent in my Satellite for a new HDD.

For RAM, you can put 8GB in it. PC3 DDR3 1066 HMz so 2x4GB modules max for dual channel.
