Question Looking for a new monitor - 27in QHD IPS preferably

Hi all,

My birthday is coming soon, and I expect to get some vouchers, so am looking to upgrade my current AOC to a 27inch, QHD, maybe curved, Freesync or Gsync.

Have you guys any recommendations?

Budget is about 400-500 euro.

I would be purchasing from one of paradigit.ie, Dell.com/ie, or Currys.ie, elaraonline.ie

My current AOC is IPS and Gsync works flawlessly with it. Sync is important as I hate stuttering, and am not a pro gamer, so any input lag is not really that relevant.

I play mainly faced past games, FPS, racing sims.

Most monitors I've looked at are VA panels. Is IPS better than VA for gaming? I know the viewing angles are different, but am wondering if the colour on VA is like IPS.

Would appreciate any feedback, recommendations.

^ not necessarily. I prefer VA for better clarity in dark scenes.

with that said, i would recommend this: https://ie.pcpartpicker.com/product...0-x-1440-144-hz-curved-monitor-lc27g54tqbuxen

I dont know where in scotland you live, but ebay ships to ireland. lots of good deals in ebay.

Hey all,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Seems there are many more VA options than IPS. At least, the IPS cost more as well. Not ruling out either at the moment.

I've been looking at all options and here's what I've come up with: https://www.currys.ie/on/demandware...e=false&cgid=gaming-monitors-pc-gaming-gaming

I've done it that way for comparisons. I will not be purchasing from this store. It will likely be by Amazon UK (I live in Ireland) as I have free delivery.

I've thrown in an Ultra Wide, as I've always thought they were very cool.

If you have any opinion on the choices, or alternatives, then please by all means let me know.

Cheers

Happy early birthday! Based on your preferences, for a 27-inch QHD, curved monitor with either Freesync or Gsync, and within a budget of 400-500 euro, I have a few recommendations for you to consider.

  1. Dell S2721DGF: This monitor offers a 27-inch QHD display, Gsync compatibility, and a fast refresh rate. It's well-regarded for gaming and has good color reproduction.
  2. AOC CQ32G1: This is a 32-inch curved QHD monitor with Freesync support. It's a VA panel, and while it might have slightly slower response times than IPS, it still offers great visuals and immersive gaming experience,

Thanks for touching base.

That Dell looks very nice. Sadly here it's over £500, which is even more in Euro. I also have to factor in customs duty from UK, which is adding to the headache!

Appreciate the feedback.

Just thought I'd update on this one.

After some lengthy reasoning, and having already had a great experience with my current 24 IPS. So, I went with the AOC 27 165hz Curved VA Panel. I was very much looking forward to it. Sadly it turned out to be a bad unit. There was a lot of ghosting even with different overdrive settings. There was horrible flicker too. I'm putting it down as a bad unit, as it has been well reviewed. Sent it back.

Along with a lack of options, and out of stock everywhere, I settled on this :

MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD

It has great review, and will fit in nicely with my desk etc.

Thanks to all for the input.

Can't seem to find the award for the best solution. It in some threads and not others.

So here is a little pic:

I have to say, I love it. Colour out of the box was excellent. Smooth as butter gaming on native. Response times are super quick.

G-sync works flawlessly.

Stand is very solid as is the general build quality. Port selection is minimal with 1 DP, 2 HDMI and a USB C port(this can power a USB 3.2 hub, which I will be getting)

Overall very satisfied.

Another one I love. The Harpoon is a great little mouse. I've mine over a year now, and the battery still holds up great. I typically game about 1-2 hours a day and maybe 4 hours work, and I normally get at least a week out of the Harpoon,

Very solid!

Nice looking rig you have there.

I went with a 27" curved 1440/144 G Sync panel from AOC a while back and it was by far one of the best system upgrades I have done in some time. Being able to move away from V Sync on (most of) the titles I play was a game changer. I have found that a couple of the older games I have still like to be locked at 1080/60 to look and feel their best, but the other side of that coin, opening up the framerate and resolution makes a few of them seem like an entirely different experience.
Admittedly, I have been arguing myself out of another graphics card purchase that would really bring the new monitor to life, but all in good time....(and hopefully some falling prices)

Thanks :) It's my first 'Bling' build. RGB all over the shop! :ROFLMAO:

I have to agree with you. The AOC in my sig, is a 24in FHD 144hz, IPS, and I love it. Was using DLDSR to upscale to 1440p, and it was so much better picture. That spurred me to get this one.

Do you mind me asking if the AOC you got was a VA or IPS? I first went with AOC 27G2 Curved gaming which was a VA panel. I was very disappointed. Now it's possible it was just a bad monitor, and not the entire scope of that model being sold. I'm not ruling out VA completely, but so far IPS is what gets a big thumbs up for me so far. VA seems to ghost a lot regardless of game or setting, and the one I ordered (and now RMA'd) was flickering too. Bad experience.

Playing it on native is just so good. My partner sees me walking around smiling after a gaming session. I think she thinks there's something going on!!

There seems t be a little overhead for DLDSR. So am glad I took the plunge on 1440p.

What rig are you running yourself?
