Ok. Here are the answers:

Approximate purchase date - this month
Budget Range - INR 30,000
System usage - Gaming, browsing, watching videos
Buying monitor - No

Parts to upgrade - New motherboard, new processor, new GPU, RAM, Case + Power Supply
Need to buy OS - No
Preferred website - www.flipkart.com (any Indian e-commerce website will do)
Location - Bangalore, India
Part preference - I have a VGA Monitor so need appropriate components
Overclocking - Maybe
SLI or Crossfire - Maybe
Monitor 1024 x 768
Reason for upgrade - Play games at medium to low settings. 720p is sufficient. Not looking for high settings, moderate is fine.
Games - Star Wars: The Old Republic, COD, Battlefield, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed (latest ones), The Witcher 3

I would get:

- A H81 chipset motherboard.
- An Intel Pentium G3258.
- A GTX 750 Ti.
- Cheapest 2x4GB RAM with lowest CAS.
- A Coolermaster G550M.
- Any case that you like.

If you'd like my personal suggestion on a complete build. Please feel free to ask.

Wow.. wasn't expecting something below an i3 to make the list. You sure that the G3258 will do me good for another year?

A pentium will do you just fine. Good news is, whenever you need to upgrade you can just swap it out with something like an i5 4460 if you need more performance. The 750 ti with the pentium should push 60+ FPS on BF4 Ultra 1080p, so you should be fine again. Keep me posted.

Yes, it will do fine. Especially if you overclock it. And reaching 4.0 GHz is really easy. You can even do it with the stock cooler. But I would not suggest it as it is very noisy.

Thanks for your reply guys...

I was just reading a review of the G3258 on amazon.in :

First of all, G3258 can do wonders.

Reason i gave it a 2 star :

In Amazon global website, the same processor costs $60, which translates around INR 3700.
Fortunately, Asus and many manufacturers support overclocking 3258 on their B85 and H81 chip-set based motherboards, which costs around $60 again, so the cost for both CPU and Motherboard would not exceed 120-130 $, i.e Rs 7500-8000.

But here in India, the processor itself cost around 5300 and a good motherboard that could unlock the potential out of this chip costs around 6000, summing up to RS 11,500.

Now whats the point here ??

I can get an i3-3220 (supports hyper-threading i.e 4 cores) and and a decent B75 chip-set board for exactly Rs. 10,000, which beats the performance in most of the cases (60% of cases since 3258 is plain dual core chip with no hyper-threading), and an equivalent performance in rare cases (remaining 40%).

Bear in mind that this processor reaches those heights only when overclocked to above 4.2 GHz, which can only be achieved using premium CPU heat-sinks (Considering Indian temperature conditions) which costs like Rs 3000 !!!

If we go for an i3 instead of this Pentium, i could easily save about Rs 3000-4000, i could get better performance in most of the cases, and I NEED NOT SPEND HOURS OF TIME STICKING AROUND MY COMPUTER OVERCLOCKING THE CHIP, WHICH IN-TURN REDUCES THE LIFETIME OF THE CHIP.

Bottom line, I would love to go for this chip to get all nerdy and try out over clocking a cheap chip. Otherwise, i would peacefully go for an i3 and enjoy a better daily life performance.

And next year I'm moving to a city where the average temperature is 40 degrees Celsius during summers. Keeping these factors in mind, would you still suggest the G3258?

Yes, make sure you get a board from Asus, as some other H81 boards wont let you overclock. Changing your CPU wont make any decrease in temps, the g3258 should be fine. All I can recommend is that if you think you need some more airflow, you can buy some corsair or NZXT fans for a decent price to help airflow, or invest in a Cooler like the TX3.

Btw I was earlier considering an i3-4150 but I guess the G3258 is better?

And I ran the rig you suggested on game-debate and it thinks that the Witcher 3 won't run. Here's the report: http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=3443&game=The+Witcher+III&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Pentium+G3258+3.2GHz&gc_make=Nvidia&gc_deriv=GeForce+GTX+750+MSI+Gaming+2GB+Edition&ram=8&screenRes_width_FPS=1024&screenRes_height_FPS=768&checkSubmit=#systemrequirements

I would definitely get some after-market CPU cooling then. Also make sure your case has good airflow as well.

I do not know about the prices in India. But if what is stated in the review is true. Then go for it if you aren't going to overclock the Pentium, the i3 will be better.

MSI and ASRock should be fine as well. But look it up for the individual board.

i3 is better than the G3258. (I have a g3258 with $50 b85 gigabyte board @4.0ghz), just check performance of things you care about. IF cost is close get the i3.

I do not know either the cost of parts in india or how much you can spend. I buy a processor for 5+ years and expect to upgrade video card at least once in life of CPU. You may be able to find a very cheap bundle, my g3258 plus msi z97 pc mate was $100US total. I used the 97 MB for an i5 and bought the b85 MB for the g3258).

Just read this in an article (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-budget-gaming-pc-guide)

However, the big takeaway from this project is the importance of the CPU and the reality that the Pentium G3258 - even with a massive 1GHz overclock in place - presents bottlenecks you may encounter sooner rather than later on more recent games. The obvious step to take when experiencing less than stellar performance is to lower resolution - on this set-up, that only goes so far. It works fine on a GPU-intensive games like Metro Last Light Redux or Tomb Raider, which aren't overly taxing on the main processor. However, for Assassin's Creed Unity, Battlefield 4, Ryse and Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, the performance hitches remain regardless of pixel count - the G3258 is a dual-core CPU processor substituting raw overclocked speed for multiple threads, and it doesn't quite work out.

Thoughts?

I just want a no-lag gaming experience. At the same time, I don't want the PC to sound like a jet or spend extra on a cooler. Btw there are quite a few i3-4150 vs G3258 debates on this forum. If you could kindly read and post your views on the amazon.in comment, that could give some more insight... Thanks

Hey guys... I'm planning to go for a GTX 950 GPU.

There are 2 CPUs I'm considering: FX-8350 and i5-4440. But I can't decide which CPU to go for. Do I really need to OC either CPU?

My second question is: what RAM speed do I go for and 1 8GB stick or 2 4GB sticks?

The GPU is fine for your needs. You could even save some money by going with a 750 Ti.
Of the two processors you are proposing, the FX-8350 is slightly better. And you cannot overclock that i5.
The choice of RAM really depends on how many applications or how heavy applications you plan on running at the same time. Personally I would go with 1 8GB stick, for the option of adding another 8 GB stick. But if you know you will not need more than 8 GB, go with 2x 4GB.

Thanks for your reply...

As of now I'm going for the following:

AMD FX-8350
Gigabyte 78LMT motherboard
GTX 960 2GB
8GB x1 RAM Stick
1 TB HDD

is the motherboard appropriate for now as well a future upgrades?
Case and SMPS

You will have a very powerful setup in respect to your specified resolution.
As for the motherboard, honestly don't have enough knowledge of AMD boards/chipsets to tell you. But I do know that Gigabyte makes good quality boards.

Oh, I had actually heard that the Gigabyte 78LMT board wasn't good for FX-8350 that's why I was concerned. Can someone who knows motherboards well please help me out?

Alright so I'm having a little problem. I'm spoilt for choice. When I ask local shops for quotations, I tell them that I need 8 GB of RAM and a motherboard. I don't specifically mention a motherboard model or which company's RAM I exactly want. This leads to different shops suggesting different products, each citing various reasons.

I have realized however, that these shopkeepers are no experts. The experts are here in online forums. This is why I request all of you to suggest me specific components (name the exact model of whichever component you are suggesting) so that I ask these shops for only these particular components, and there is homogeneity product-wise in the quotes I receive from them. I won't be making the mistake of asking them for inputs. They shall only procure what I have specifically listed.

All I want is a gaming pc for Rs. 40,000 or less. The components I need are:

Processor: Intel i3-4440
Motherboard: Suggest an appropriate model. It's confusing because there are so many available. I'm also interested in OCing.
8GB RAM: Which company? I'm inclined towards choosing a single 8GB stick so that I can attach another 8GB stick later
GPU: GTX 960.
