Looking for a PC which is a worthy upgrade but was made before 2017

So, here's the deal: I would like to buy myself a prebuilt (preferably Dell) desktop which will be an improvement over my current machine (Dell Inspiron 660 - i5 3340, 8 GB RAM, 750 Ti 2GB) but is made before 2017 / can support Windows 8 officially.

I'm thinking I might buy a workstation since I'm going to need a machine which has a lot of cores and can perform CPU-intensive tasks quickly (I do audio source separation and tend to multi-task considerably and my current machine tends to slow down quite a bit when doing these things) but what's your suggestion on what I should get? It must be able to run either 8 RTM or 8.1

Take a complete system image written to a n external drive in case something goes wrong, and try a fresh install of Win10, using WIn8 product key. Although the free Win10 period is long since over, many are successfully still installing WIn10, which would eliminate your need to start with older hardware just for Win8.1-compatibility's sake...

If determined to go Win8-supported hardware for whatever strange reason, then a dell with an i7- 6700 would likely have been the proverbial last -stop on supported hardware/ processors...

Do you need just a model, which supports Win 8.1?

Did I get it right?
