I'm looking to switch to a more secure email service than my usual Yahoo account. Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm a newbie here on the forms so if this thread is in the wrong section feel free to move it.

As @USAFRet says - define what requirements for "Secure":
  • Every message you sent is in clear form;
  • Most probably, it's being stored on Yahoo/Google/Microsoft in clear form as well;
  • Your interaction with the mail service (whether using web-based client, or IMAP/POP3/SMTP), is most probably over secure communication so it can't be monitored;

If you want your email to be completely invisible for the for the service provider, you must use "encrypted" service and digitally sign /encrypt your messages. If this is what you are after, prepare for revolt from your parents / friends who won't be (easily) able to communicate with you.

I just use gmail, retrieved in my Outlook client.
Email, by its very nature, is 'unsecure'. No matter what any service says it can do.

To determine a level of service or protection, you need to know what you're trying to protect against.

That service linked above is just a VPN provider, that also provides you an email service.

"Private email", as they purport to provide, is only "private" until it goes through someone elses server, or hits my inbox.
For instance, if you send me an email at one of my gmail addresses....that email does indeed go through the gmail servers.
It just appears to come from somewhere other than your particular IP address.

It has built in end-to-end encrypted email service and my opinion its the best email service ever ive been using since ive been using for 5 years never been hacked. If someone tried to hack its easily traced

I know everyone is different, but I'm not super hung up on the security of my emails outside of work. That is, I l'm not sending out my personal info through email. There are much more secure places for info like that. And I honestly never felt the need to put super-sensitive info in my emails. Has my email account ever been hacked? No. But I like the idea that even if it was, meh, minor inconvenience.
