Hi I recently ordered a Oculus Rift consumer version. I know my pc is outdated.
What can I upgrade and what should I buy to run Oculus rift games with decent performance?
I am a total newbie to hardware. My budget is around 400-600 USD.

You basically have to buy a new computer for the rift, at least if you want to experience it at recommended settings!


At minimum, you need to buy a Core i5 6500, 16gb DDR4, h170 motherboard (you can get away with h110/b150 if you want), and if you didn't buy a retail license of windows or didn't upgrade to Win 10 you'll need that too. Overall the cost is ~400, but going a bit higher end to the 6700K and a z170 board will make you hit $600 if you don't have an OS


HOWEVER, your system technically meets the bare minimum necessary, so first test out the rift and see if it's actually worth spending money right now.

You should just get a better processor, motherboard and ram.

You meet the minimum specs. Get a VR HMD and then if you feel it isnt performing as expected then upgrade.

If you want to upgrade, CPU would be my recommendation. But you are VR ready.
