I'm looking at upgrading my graphics card AND monitor in the next month or so. I'm looking at a higher end setup and in total am willing to pay up to $800 combined for the two. For the monitor I want at a minimum 1440p resolution (of course the more the better though). As far as AMD vs Nvidia I have no preference. (This is a gaming build btw)

Here are my specs:
PSU: Corsair CX600
RAM: Corsair Vengance Pro 16gb (2x8Gb) 2400MHz
CPU: AMD fx-8320
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 3Gb
Case: Corsair SPEC-01
Monitor: ASUS VS24AH-P

What are you thoughts?

gtx 980 will crush everything at 1440 and AOC is a good brand

I understand its a Intel based spec. In some cases the FX-8320 is a great CPU. I prefer Intel for hyperthreading etc.

This looks just what I'm looking for, though I have two questions:
1) Would you advise the 980 and the AOC monitor over possibly using AMD's free sync monitor with a slightly lesser card?
Specifically http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009769&cm_re=free_sync_1440p-_-24-009-769-_-Product
2) Is there a specific reason you chose the ASUS 980 Strix card over any other brands?

if u want to game at ultra 1440p, a 980 is very usefull. the 290x is below the 970, so its not worth going with. use any sub 300 1440p you like, as long as its from a decent brand. i went with the 980 strix because its the most well cooled card of the bunch

That makes sense. Thanks for your help!
