I haven't kept up with hardware trends in years so I could use some input on an upgrade.
My system is more or less decent as is but I feel like my mobo is rather dated with DDR2, USB2, and SATA3g/s. And to upgrade it, the rest must follow so I'm looking for advice on replacing the CPU, MOBO, and RAM.
So far, I've done a little leg work and I'm liking the following setup
Mobo:
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131821
CPU (Replacing Core 2 Extreme X9650 3Ghz):
Intel Core i7-3770K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501
Ram:
Saw this deal on Corsair 8 GB Vengeance Red PC3-15000 http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-PC3-15000-1866mHz-CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9R/dp/B0056KUWS4/ref=amb_link_363273802_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=1D9VYHW9AYGC356XY8WB&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1370819342&pf_rd_i=B007SZ0EOW
But this looks pretty good but perhaps pricey. Really have no idea what to pick for ram. Never do really.
G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2666
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231596 or the $200 8gb set
Definitely open to suggestions and not absolutely set on anything (though I do love that mobo design)
Just as a basic overview of what I'm keeping:
GPU - EVGA GTX 580,
SSD system drive plus other drives and NAS
1000w psu,
Asus p5k mobo
liquid cooled
Use:
I use a lot of graphics programs like photoshop. I do minor vid editing and might like to do more soon. I barely have time for games anymore but it's still important to me when I do. And I multi-task like crazy. I do want to do a moderate overclock, enough to take advantage of the liquid cooling, but nothing extreme.
Budget:
I can afford better than average but not the ultimate. I cringe at the days of spending $1000 on a cpu. I don't care about bragging rights anymore, just a really good solid power system for work and gaming.
Buying:
Just as soon as I get some feedback.
