Hello,
Posting today because I'm looking for an alternative way to connect to my wifi/router. At the moment i'm connected because i'm using a tp-link wifi usb dongle and honestly, it's ok for simple uses such as general browsing the web, or skype calls. The problem with it though is that when I try and play games, say Rocket League, it's ok half of the time then the other half I'm lagging all over the show and it will drop me at times from the game. And the usb dongle runs hot. warm to the touch hot. (not molten lava hot lol)
The other things I have to use is the Ethernet port on my motherboard but the problem is my pc is in my bedroom and the virgin media superhub malarkie thing is in my living room. I could run a wire through the flat but I don't want wires to be getting in mine or my flatmates way. I'd put the pc in the living room but my flatmate has the PS4 in there for netflix and I feel me skyping + him watching tv series would conflict.
I'm limited because my motherboard (well pc) is just a temp. replacement because I accidentally fried my last pc and the only salvageable parts were my SSD, HDD, disk drive and memory. There is one spare pci port however directly above it is my gpu's fans so it would either not fit, or fit and risk the gpu / adaptor running hot.
My question is, is there anything I can connect to my ethernet port that can maybe connect to a wireless adaptor ? Or maybe connect it to a router that could somehow connect to my suberhub thing? I realise its a long shot and the answer will probably be, get the pci adaptor and downgrade the gpu, or just run a 30-40 meter ethernet cable through the flat. But I'm hopeful there might be some crazy, unconventional, unorthodox way to do it! Or.. if not, maybe somehow improving the wireless dongle to perform better?
Here are some specs if it helps;
Dongle: tl wn823n
Mobo: Foxconn H61MXL/H61MXL-K
Connected through 300Mbps Wireless USB Adapter
Cheers!
