Ok, here's the jist of my issue, I got given a pretty new hp laptop ( HP 17-F037CL) AMD A8-6410 onboard R5 gfx. It came with 6gb of 1600 ram. I knew it wouldn't be dual channeled so I wanted to get more, I decided to look on crucial's site and I let it run the compatibility app, it told me that 1833 ram was compatible, I jumped for joy, and ordered up 2 4gb sticks. I put them in, the laptop noticed them, but wouldn't dual channel them. I know due to me having an apu having dual channel ram really helps performance. I looked up my Mobo specs, and saw it doesn't support 1833 in dual channel array, so I dropped 2 sticks of 1600 4gb in, still not dual channel, the sticks are exact, I got them as a kit. I can't really get a clear referrence as to what the configuration would be to get my ram into dual channel on this dumb pc, I'm thinking maybe I can only dual channel 2 sticks of the same 1333 type ram, any thoughts/advice?

Frustrating experience.

I agree that it should have worked, and the Crucial compatibility app is usually pretty good.

In the end, this dual channel can be hit or miss.

I would see if there is a bios upgrade from HP in their support section which may help the RAM get recognized.

Also, look into the bios settings to see if you can set the memory clock to match the one you bought. Most motherboards will select it automatically, but it does not always work.

The dual channel operates about 5% faster, so if you have to choose between 6 GB at 1333 Mhz dual channel, or 8 GB at 1866 Mhz in single channel, the latter will be overall faster anyway.
