A few weeks ago I came home from a long trip, and when I booted up my PC it created a temporary profile.

1/19/2015 The error from that read: "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile.

DETAIL - The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

Next I ran chkdsk. The log is very long, so I'll post that after I describe everything. It appeared that everything was fine after that chkdsk. The next day, I did another disk check to see if anything would be different. It looks like much of the same, plus a few lines of "deleting orphan file record segment ___".

Everything seemed to be okay until I installed some Adobe applications, including Creative Cloud, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. When I attempted to open Illustrator, I got a Windows Action Center popup that told me that the exe was corrupt. (I am also having trouble launching AutoCAD 2015, though since my third chkdsk, Illustrator launches well and AutoCAD still does not. The error says "Fatal Error: Unhandled [etc]. I am not sure if it is connected.)

My hard drive is a Samsung Spinpoint F3, 1TB, purchased in 2010. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

The following are my chkdsk logs. I'm not posting the whole thing, because most is repetitive, and the event viewer doesn't have all of the text from the check.

Chkdsk from 1/19/2015

CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 5)...
Read failure with status 0xc000009c at offset 0x97f43b000 for 0x1000 bytes.
File record segment 84664 is unreadable. (Repeats four times, with different segment numbers)
The USA check value, 0x701, at block 0x1 is incorrect.
The expected value is 0x18. (Repeats five times, with different values)
The multi-sector header signature in file 0x26c66 is incorrect.
42 41 41 44 30 00 03 00 32 78 3f ea 11 00 00 00 BAAD0...2x?.....
03 00 00 00 38 00 01 00 40 02 00 00 00 04 00 00 ....8...@.......
Deleting corrupt file record segment 158822. (Repeats too many times to count.)
Deleting corrupt file record segment 158834.
Deleted corrupt attribute list entry
with type code 128 in file 157943. (Repeats)
Unable to find child frs 0x26c72 with sequence number 0x3.
The attributes with same type code 0x80 but different instance tags
0x0 and 0x0 have non-contiguous VCN numbers 0xac40 and 0xc2a0
respectively in file 0x268f7.

The rest are repetitions of above, based on what's available from the event viewer

The following is what I have of my disk check on 1/20/2015

Majority is much the same as the last chkdsk, but with a few lines that say "deleting orphan file record segment __" and "19 unindexed files recovered"

602880 file SDs/SIDs processed.

Cleaning up 56 unused index entries from index $SII of file 0x9.
Cleaning up 56 unused index entries from index $SDH of file 0x9.
Cleaning up 56 unused security descriptors.
Security descriptor verification completed.
43309 data files processed.

CHKDSK is verifying Usn Journal...
34553840 USN bytes processed.

Usn Journal verification completed.
Correcting errors in the master file table's (MFT) BITMAP attribute.
Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

976657407 KB total disk space.
119607816 KB in 157014 files.
98344 KB in 43312 indexes.
236 KB in bad sectors.
736967 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.
856214044 KB available on disk.

4096 bytes in each allocation unit.
244164351 total allocation units on disk.
214053511 allocation units available on disk.

The third chkdsk, which I did today, is very similar to the first on 1/19/2015. This one is also too long in the event viewer, so I can't view the end of the log. I don't notice any significant difference between this chkdsk log and the one on 1/19/2015.

I don't understand most of this, unfortunately. I am very grateful for any help the users here can offer. Even if all this just boils down to me simply needing to replace the hard drive, it will be nice to be enlightened to what these logs mean.

Thank you for your time.

Hi there C Powell,

It seems that some bad sectors appear on your HDD. I would advise you to back up the most crucial data that is stored on it. Eventually, you will need to get a new drive.
Apart from that, it will be a good idea to test the drive with a brand specific testing tool(or a third party one). The results will provide some S.M.A.R.T data which you can post over here. Keep in mind that once bad sectors start to appear, they will eventually continue to do so.
