Hey guys, Im in the process of building my very first gaming PC (yay!) and I dont really have any idea what I'm doing. I've spoken to a number of computer Gurus who go to my school, and have mostly got my build down pat:
PSU: EVGA 500W
GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 380 Nitro 4GB. Might swap this out for a GTX 970.. thoughts? Price isnt too big a deal
CPU: Intel Core i5-4590
MB: Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3-A
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 RAM 1600 MHz 12800 Desktop Memory
CASE: Deepcool Tesseract SW-BU Mid tower Case
HD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" Internal Desktop Hard Drive 7200rpm 64MB SATA 6GB/s
PCI-E-WIFI-Internet: Atheros anything Dont really know about this one... any help? Ethernet is out of the question, so I'm looking for a wifi adapter thingy

Now the real question is what monitor should I get? I'd like a 20-24" 1080p, 60hz relatively low response-time monitor for competitive gaming (CSGO, StarCraft etc.)
Id like to look for a relatively cheap monitor with these features, if possible.

Also, any suggestions for a decent gaming keyboard and mouse that are mid-range? thanks guys

Sorry if this is a poorly formatted post of whatever, or I've listed the parts the wrong way. I only just made an account to ask these questions. Thanks in advance guys ^_^

Solution
Hi, well the parts that you listed are pretty good although for the PSU you may want to look at the EVGA 550W G2 series as these are top of the range PSU's and have a good price point sometimes the 650W is cheaper as well so look into that, as you're gaming on 1080p I would go for the GTX 970 as this card performs perfectly at this resolution the r9 380 plays better at 1440p.

You may want to consider getting a 250GB Samsung EVO 850 SSD to store your OS and some of your games. for wifi you would try TP-LINK-TL-WDN4800 if you have the socket for it. also how much are you willing to spend on a monitor as these vary in price a ton?

Keyboards/mice are really a personal preference this will be completely up to you but I would recommended...

Solution
Ah okay, so you think an SSD is worth it? is it only for load times? Im not totally sure sorry.

And alrighty, I'll pick up a 970

And id say around $150 AU for the monitor? Is that possible?

Also, sorry for the plethora of questions, but how do i tell if I have the socket for the TP-Link TL-WDN4800?

SSD's increase the read/write speed of anything on them, this includes any games meaning it reads texture information faster but there wont be a huge boost in performance once the computer has started but there will be one.

GTX 970 is always a good choice for 1080p and it has low power draw which is nice so good choice.

Yes that is entirely possible have a look for BenQ RL2460HT 60Hz 24.0" Monitor these have a 1ms refresh rate at 1080p and are usually fairly priced. http://cplonline.com.au/benq-rl2460ht-24inch-1ms-fhd-monitor-rl2460ht.html

for that you will need to check the motherboard.

Thanks so much for the answers! They're so helpful ^_^

Just how do I check if the motherboard is compatible with that monitor though? I just tried googling it and it didnt really work :$

Motherboard with the monitor? what are you talking about? the input device will be your GPU that you get and the 970 is compatible with any input type even if it requires an adaptor but the screen input type is HDMI which the 970 has anyway so you will be fine.

Oh sorry, just not sure what you meant by "for that you will need to check the motherboard".

But alrighty! thanks a heap mate! and sorry for my woeful ignorance on computers, I'm trying 😛
