Currently I'm having some heating issues with my cpu and I've gotten a few shut downs to prevent overheating.

I've realized that I need to get some new thermal paste and apply it.

So I'm ordering some. However while I'm at It I figured I'd ask for recommendations for fan replacements for better cooling.

I'm using an Intel core i7 3770 @ 3.40 ghz.

The fan over it is the stock Intel CPU Cooler for LGA1150/1155/1156 OEM (Intel E97378-001)

I'm looking for something that will fit the size of my mother board on the asus Z77 sabertooth.

Secondly, if you have any suggestions on Possible CPU upgrades for me to look into at a future date I would like to hear them.

That is a fine processor for now. For cooling, I recommend a CM Hyper 212 EVO(25-30$). It offers great air cooling for it's price. it will fit with your motherboard.

However I would like to know what case and ram you have so I can make sure it will fit with those, it has a height of 160mm.

For the 212 EVO, I read that I could do a pull method for my fan, and put it on the other side of the heat sink? Is this effective or a bad idea?

I would like to have access to my ram slots for the future.

If it fits correctly over the heatsink, go for it. Alot of the times it just fits better over the ram. It is best to have fan blow towards your case exhaust. So if it's in the back, pull setup, as you said.

My fans are set up to blow air out of the top and back of the case, while pulling air in from the front. So Theoretically I could position it facing upwards and pulling. I'll do some more research before purchasing. If there are any more suggestions or alternatives to the 212 evo, I'd be happy to hear them. But for now it looks like this may be the part I'm gonna go with.

I personally own a Evo so that, plus the fact it is extremely well known and has great ratings is why I recommend it. :) Also the Evo has good mounting(I know other coolers do to) but it's nice to know I can recommend it for most sockets.
My Evo also preforms great.

Update after looking at that fan, I still recommend the Evo, it doesn't peak out as high as the Evo(which you might not need for not OC). Incase you wanted to know, I found a noise video, at FULL-POWER 5cm from the fan it was 56dBA, 100cm away 26 dBA.
As well it looks to be a German company from what I can tell, sold by retailers in Germany or around there.
